cold weather washing

what's the coldest anyone has washed their truck? got a lot of salt and dirt on mine and I want to clean it but I don't want to mess up the paint

 

washing off the salt is better for your truck it wont hurt the paint, but the salt is hurting your paint

 

A glorious 65*....Anything below that I'll have sombody else wash it..

 

Never heard any temperature being too cold to wash a vehicle. Maybe if the hose water freezes before it hits the truck, it will chip the paint. LOL But seriously I think the temperature would get too cold for the person doing the washing before the paint job came under risk.

Touchless car wash for anything below 40 degrees.

 

I would pressure wash it, but wouldn't use sponge or brush until atleast 40 degrees. Wouldn't do an automatic car wash either IMO.

 

I have hot water running from the basement and out of the garage. I also have some youngstown gloves that are pretty much water proof.
I'll wash when it's below freezing or just spray all the crap off.

 

as long as water wont freeze on truck i will wash it, but rubbber gloves, thick black ones over hands keeps them from gettin frost bite...

in my town there is a touch free car wash, it even dries your truck with some kind of jet engine thing. I use it all winter and i never have to worry about frozen doors or windows

 

Get a set of thick and put them on when your hands are warm. I wash here in Canada with them in temperatures well under 14 and keep your hands toasty!

 

I hand wash mine into the the teens without gloves.

I take a bucket of luke - warm suds with me in a 5 gallon capped pail. I take the cap off of the pail before i start rinsing / washing with the first set of quarters. Right before the end of the 1st set of quarters, i spray into / agitate the bucket to kick up the suds.

I then hand wash it like i normally would, only perhaps with an added sense of urgency (Work fast)

After washing it, i rinse it and will even put apply the wax, in as much as it is actually thoroughly cleaned, unlike the drive-thru's where you will be rubbing grit into the paint (AKA scratching the $#!+ out of) when drying it. I usually need extra quarters during the last rinse to wash the excess wax off if i applied it.

I can't dry it in that kind of weather due to it freezing, but i can hustle through a great wash and dry windows and often the hood and roof and some misc. other areas.

 

Just comes down to how much cold water you can stand. The cold water wont hurt the paint, just your hands

 

I drive south till I hit warm weather and look for a DIY spray car wash thingy.....and I bring my own cleaning towels ........

Washed mine last week in 34 degree weather, here in VA they put down so much salt on the roads your don't need snow for the roads took look white. What I do is get out my old rotating sprinkler head and slide it under my truck to rinses all the salt off, I'll move it a foot or so every couple of minutes or so, does an excellent job, it does get the engine compartment a little wet but I just dry it off with a rag or something then start the engine to heat the rest off.

 

How do you figure you will hurt the paint?

Washing your truck in cold temps is not going to do any more harm than driving down a wet road when the temps are close to freezing - which is nothing.
