Once I take possession of my new truck, I'll be looking to buy a canopy (aka, "cap", "topper") for it. I use a canopy seasonally -- on in the winter, typically early November through March, and off during the remainder of the year. During the winter, I go on numerous bird hunting trips on which I'm hauling my dog, who always rides in a crate, decoys, hunting buddies and their dogs, etc. and have to haul much of this in the bed of the truck (but not the hunting buddies).

On my previous trucks, I've bought lightweight aluminum canopies in the color black and secured with clamps. Aesthetically, not much to look at, but practical, esp. for getting on and off and less expensive. Once upon a time, I could install / uninstall these by myself, but my upper body strength isn't what it once was, so I have someone help me now.

Although I like the appearance of fiberglass canopies which match the truck's color, this is not possible with an aluminum canopy.

This time around I might splurge and buy a fiberglass, color-matched canopy; but still want / need the easy on and off attribute.

    Comments / recommendations?

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately our garage will not permit this kind of arrangement.

Would you consider a canvas one? Softopper makes some that are easily removed with one person, reasonably water tight too. Depends on your requirements for security.

I like security, even if it's a misplaced sense of security -- you could break into my aluminum capped canopy with a can opener, but I still felt my stuff was secure from the "grab and go" kind of thief.

Someone with a top might chime in. My last top was a leer and it had 3 brackets on each side then pulled off.

Suspect I'll look at options to the cheap, easy on and off, aluminum canopy, like a Leer. Thanks for your response.
