My girlfriend's 2013 Hyundai Elantra had an engine knock. The dealer opened the engine and found metal shavings. We just got word from Hyundai's headquarters that they are going to replace the engine with a manufactured engine. The engine only comes with a 12 month 12k warranty. The car is at 80K so 20k from its warranty but the car warranty will cover the engine for that 20k too. Has anyone ever dealt with a dealer on this type of issue? Is it fair for me to ask for an extended warranty on the engine/car? Just looking for any info before going to the dealer and finalizing all paperwork. Thanks.

after dealing with all this, I'm glad I drive a Toyota!

I had a vehicle that had multiple issues under warranty.

I wrote a letter and requested an extended bumper to bumper warranty & ya know without question they provided it. I just detailed the issues and provided the name of the dealership & guy I'd been dealing with.

It was a Ford F-250 Diesel.

    ON EDIT:

BTW, I never needed the extra coverage even tho I put a bunch more miles on it.

They should at least cover the engine for the remainder of the original warranty. I don't think you will get an extended warranty past the original 100k but it can't hurt to ask.
