In the early to mid 60's dad would take me to see Art Arfons and Don Garlits at local strips. Since they lived semi local and occasionally participated in St Pete (Sunshine Dragstrip), Lakeland and Oldsmar.

He worked for Pontiac. In the fall of '63 he brought home a red/white droptop GTO, 4spd w/trips. We went to the local burger joints that night and picked up a few 'sales runs'. I was hooked. And of course had had no previous knowledge of his driving skills. Lets just say there were several sad tri 5 and roadster owners around the next day. And sales blossomed from word of mouth of the whoopings.

In '68 I picked up GTO #104, also a tripower car, but a bit of an unusual sedan.

In '70 I crewed on a '69 RA IV Judge that set the E/S ET record at Gainesville in a NHRA points meet. Record only stood about a week or two, but hey.

'70 - '73, '76 and a couple times after that, went to the Gators for finals day. Always on the pit side, I've also gotten to be in the manuf. section by the starting line, in the tower and on top of the tower.

I have been doing some geneology recently, and found I am related to a guy my mom used to speak of when I was little. His name is Iven C Kincheloe, and can be found on Wikipedia. A fighter ace in Korea, as a test pilot he was the first person to exceed 100,000' (to 126k I think) and break the 2000mph barrier. It's possible the need for acceleration and speed is genetic. Right? :D
