Recall 3rd Gen Windshield??

Recently inherited a small chip in my windshield that spidered into a 14" crack due to....sand? I never heard the impact of anything hitting the windshield, but now has to be replaced. I've never seen any glass that fragile...after 3k miles nonetheless!

Has anyone had any issues with weak glass? Have read on Edmunds/other forums that it's fairly common and there was talk about a potential recall.

 

I went threw 5 windshields in one of my 1st Gens 02 I believe.

 

Good grief... It's one thing if it's warranted - heavy offroading, work sites, etc. but this was easy highway driving!

I was hoping that wasn't the answer, but did cross my mind.. Luck 1 - 5 cars, 15 years and no broken windshields - 0

 

I'm on my 3rd windshield on my 2nd gen, and even it has a spot repair on it. My truck is a rock magnet.

 

Ask a Jeep Wrangler owner how often they replace theirs?

Increase your following distance.... I've never had a chipped or cracked windshield.

 

FJ Cruisers are bad for cracked windshields too.

 

Coming from a few decades in the glass business, this is a true statement.

I had an 07 FJ till I got my 2010 tacoma and never had a chip or a cracked windshield.

 

I wish I was tailgating for an excuse... unfortunately don't have that to blame.

I'm going with luck, I've had my jeep for a long time and still have the window that was on it when I bought her. My buddy has had his jeep for 3 years and has had as many windshields replaced.

 

I was driving to my wedding in my '13 FJ TT and had a rock hit my windshield as I was traveling through a construction zone. This is the only windshield that I've damaged.

 

Mine broke the other day when absolutely nothing hit it. Pulling out of snow onto the road the truck bucked a little as it gained traction and that was enough
