I'm running 245/75R16 on my 5 lug. No problem 31x10.5 is a floatation tire. They are wide and heavy.

Who did the replacement engine come from? Burning oil? Are your plugs black? I'm guessing you're lugging the engine but you shouldn't loose speed in 4th. In 5th I see it possible if trying to pull a hill but by no means loose speed on flat land.

I would check the timing? If it was never set that will kill power in some cases

I don't know if I'm buying the tire size argument.

Granted I have a newer 4 cyl than OP (2TRFE 159hp) but I also have a heavier 2nd gen. I have 32 inch tires load range E, stock 4.10 gears, and I still have no trouble going from 55 to 75 on flat ground in 5th gear with 500lb of cargo without even coming close to putting it to the floor.

If his truck is the same as mine, we got the 3.58 gears. With a big tire 5th gear was useless. I literally didn't use 5th gear unless I wan going down hill for about a year.

Quoting myself because I ran a little "test" yesterday, cruising at 55 mph in 5th I pushed the pedal down a little but, maybe an inch, and it took me ~12-15 seconds to hit 75mph. Could have been faster with more pedal, it was just a gentle typical acceleration.

I didn't think about the higher gearing, you probably have a point. 4.10 to 3.58 is a big difference.

Honestly, I could use 5th gear before. But I had to be cruising at like 75 on perfectly flat ground so the RPM's were high enough to hold that speed. Anything faster, and the wind resistance was too much. Anything slower, and I was bogging like a sorry 4 cyl who's owner crammed too big of tires under.

2nd gen trucks are NOT appreciably heavier than 1st gen.
    1st gen curb weight 3877.
    2nd gen curb weight 3950.
Wow, 73 pounds. That's less than 2%, yet the engine is an extra 14 hp = 9.3% more power.

Remember that the 2TR-FE was rated 164 in 2005/6 before they switched to J1349 certified power.

159 horsepower until the 2TR-FE gained Dual VVT-I. Dual VVT-I produced 164 horsepower and no change in torque values since the engines introduction.

    No.
    2005 and 2006 were called 164 horsepower.
2007+ got it knocked down to 159 **BUT WERE ACTUALLY IDENTICAL**. The difference is only in how the calculations were performed.
2016+ had it raised BACK up to 164, but **ARE ACTUALLY 5 HP MORE**.

You keep on posting crap that you make up as if it was truth. Might be time for you to take a leave and actually learn a little bit before coming back around.

Personally attacking me for your lack of knowledge is completely uncalled for.
2TR-FE was a 159 Horsepower engine at its inception with intake variable valve timing the displacement of the engine is 164 cubic inches. This was uprated in 2015 when the engine received dual VVT-I.

Now that that is out of the way do you have anything helpful for the OP? If not then stay off this thread. MODERATORS please monitor these posts.

I'm attacking you for YOUR ignorance and lazyness.

Funny how Toyota's documentation disagrees with you.

Now I suggest you take a hike before you dig that hole any deeper.
