I have noticed lately an audible metallic click when I engage the brakes after a startup acceleration. Always occurs when the truck has sat for a while, like first thing in the morning, when leave from work...stuff like that.

Any ideas what this could be?

yes, I have done the mods
My guess is it's your brake pads shifting in the caliper. Test it out by pulling into a parking spot; brake as you're moving forward. Put it in reverse, drift backwards, and brake. Since you're now moving in the opposite direction, your brake pads will probably shift in the caliper and click. Mine do this all the time when I park. No effect on performance.

Now the only thing to test is if new pads will still click, or if aftermarket pads make a difference.

This is the exact scenario....no clicking when I brake in reverse, it's when I brake going forward that I hear the click (when I apply the brakes to stop/slow down before leaving my parking lot).

    Thanks for the insight.

I experience the same thing. It seems to happen when I back up out of my garage or a parking spot, then drive forward and apply the brakes. The brakes work fine. To me it sounds like the click is coming from the rear brakes.

    Not Enough.
Agreed. It's 100% normal to the truck. Noticed my '08 doing it when I first got it, asked my Toyota technician friend, he said it's just pad shift and they all do it. Now I'm used to it and don't even pay attention to it anymore.

When switching to winter tires I sprayed some WD-40 on the pins to prevent corrosion and to keep them from seizing in the calipers. Strange thing is...the clicking stop all together. I don't understand how that could be. If its truely the pads shifting in the caliper how can a light coating of oil on the pins silence the clicks? Heavy grease I can understand but...Stumped!

I think the pads stick to those pins. When my 2008 was clicking I put new pads on and lubed everything and the clicking went away. I assumed I fixed it with the new pads, but the lubricating might have been all that I needed to do.:notsure:

If they are corroded, you can clean them off. I just buy new pins from Amazon or Autozone for usually less than $5 each side. Just use a little bit of grease on the pins where the pads sit when assembling.

I've got the brake click on my 2013 PreRunner v6 and wanted to install the extra anti-rattle clips per the thread that @gearcruncher referenced. My question on the installation:

Do I need to remove the pin that holds the clip, or do I just place the clip around the pin while the pin remains in-place?

    Much thanks!

I removed the pins and my brake pads and cleaned everything up when I installed the anti rattle clips . Lubed everything as it went back together . The machined groove in the brake pad lining was full of rust and brake debris . The pins were slightly bent and seized up .
Added some disc brake quiet to the piston side of the pads as well . Its been over a year since I did the anti rattle clips on the factory brakes 160k .No more noise
I live in the salt belt way up North and the rust builds quickly .I have to pull the brakes apart for a lube job every spring .
I suggest a full brake service
