If you're taking the time to pull out your cv axle and swap out bearings in you're front diff, you should really replace all seals with new ones(if I recall correctly, there are 2 seals for both drivers & passenger side). As you're taking it apart, just take pictures. That way if you come to a point where your uncertain of the orientation of a particular seal or part, you'll have a picture you can reference that'll show you how it all goes together.

I keep getting conflicting answers. I put the glove side facing in and the passenger side doesn't leak

Not being dumb, but are you getting the cv installed all the way in?

Glove side is the diff side - final answer :)

You have to install the seal to the correct depth or it will leak.

Yes it's seated! Was kinda hoping it wasn't so I don't have to pull it again lol

It has this much play. If I wipe it clean and move the cup a small drop forms on the bottom
    image.jpg image.jpg

I wiped it clean and pulled the cup out and you can see the fresh drop that formed

From that pic, it doesn't look like the seal is seated properly...

Should I just pull it and try a new one ? Hopefully there's nothing wrong with the cv axle...it looked fine though....ecgs recommended using a little rtv on the outside of the seal

I would, then drive the bushing flush with the housing if it isn't already.

Well I drove the cv in further with a pry bar in the notch and it's still dry. I'm sure it will start up again. Only drove a few miles lol.

Yeah the bushing is maybe 1-2 mm out. Was worried about going to far and heard quite a few people left it out a tad

It's freakin maddness here. I live in a medium sized town (around 120,000 population). I've contacted 4 local shops with good reps. One said outright they couldn't do it. The transmission shop said they didn't have the tool needed to do the job, the dealer would be the one to contact. Another independent suspension shop said $600, not including parts. Thinking they can't possibly understand what I want done, I printed off the installation instuctions from ECGS and took them to a very reputable local shop. I talked to the owner and his main mechanic (who happens to drive a 2007 taco). He was going to have his mechanic look in to it, but said they had done the same repair on GMC colorado's and it was about $800. Still waiting to hear from them about the final estimate.

Meanwhile, I crawled underneath the truck to check my diff fluid. This just doesn't look like that big of job to me. I've replaced brake calipers, radiators, starters, brake rotors...lots of little stuff. F%$# it! I think I know more about this repair from reading this forum and watching videos than any of the shops I've talked to. Unless somebody gives me a much, much better deal. I'm doing this myself when the weather gets better.

BE THERE FOR ME BROTHERS.

just to add: the second dealer I contacted said it would be 5 hours of labor at $106/hr. Told him it was quoted as 2 hours on the TSB. He told me the mfg always pays less than half the needed time on warranty work.
