my fire extinguisher had a mount for a wall. I had to dremel out some supports on the mount and then redrilled the holes to 3/8 in. Then used some 1.5 x 3/8 in bolts to mount to t slot nuts (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009SWGLHW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) in the bedrails. You could easily build a bracket if your extinguisher doesn't have one.

Good thread. Love any DIY ideas for storage/organization. I recently did the DIY shovel/axe bed rail mount found in the article that @nudavinci64 mentioned above: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/diy-hi-lift-and-tool-mounts.260147/

Now I'm planning on doing a tool mount just like the extinguisher/hatchet/flashlight mount in that same post, however I have a tonneau cover that I intend to keep on [until I get a cap someday...] so I need to modify the design to fit below the tonneau and that brought me to this thread for ideas.

I want to keep the tool mount above the left side storage cubby so I can still use that. Also, my extinguisher is one of the tall skinny ones, not the big fat ones like in the DIY post/link above. Luckily my extinguisher has its own mounting bracket with quick-release latch like others shown in this thread, like this:
    upload_2018-3-15_12-16-58.jpg

So for my design idea, I'm thinking about doing the same idea as the DIY shovel/axe mount in the post/link above (basically two vertical pieces of metal that mount to the bed rail and then have holes to mount stuff to) only I'm going to use taller/longer metal pieces to mount to, above the left side cubby. Then I could mount my tall skinny fire extinguisher, a hatchet, and a large flashlight (and/or other items) all horizontally (whereas the tool mount in the DIY post/link mounts all 3 vertically next to each other).

I whipped up an amazingly artistic mockup in Paint.Net:
    upload_2018-3-15_14-1-37.jpg
(my editing skills are amazing, I know)

I invite positive or negative feedback on my design before I follow through with it.

Looks great, please post a link to those mini tools. I just don't see the actual size ones all fitting there, but I'm in if it works.

I haven't purchased yet, but I think I can fit them. Worst case scenario I don't mount the flashlight...I have a couple in my cab.

That sucks. That is exactly what prevents me from mounting one on my bed rack. I t think it would defeat the purpose if I use a combo lock or something to secure it. Unfortunately Tacos are not too roomy inside for a nice sized extinguisher. I have a small one behind the rear driver-side passenger seat.

Drake QR mounted to the bed rail against the cab on the driver's side. I figure seconds count if I'm responding to a fire and that's the quickest reasonable location for me to grab it en route to the fire. It's a little more expensive and I do run the risk of someone stealing it but that's a risk I'm willing to take for the added life-saving potential.

IMG_20171014_192111809.jpg I used a Drake mount on the wheel well. Didn't think about someone smashing my window out, then again I have had that happen twice already without a tool for them to do it in the bed so f it. Whatever people do, get a quality extinguisher like a amerex or buckeye, they are like $10 more than those plastic handled POS's from a big box store.

I tried that little gap behind the rear seats in the corner but it didn't fit correctly even though I have a skinny extinguisher. I'll try again to see if I can make it fit there, I like that idea.

Here is my setup! Fire extinguisher, jumpbox, and first aid kit. Basic roadside tools on the other side. Socket set, pliers, cutters, breaker bar, gloves, rags, etc..

That is really great! Looks like a second gen? Looks like more space than third gen but I could be wrong.

Upgraded my mount a while back but never posted it! Believe I use the 807 bracket.

Yes sir, 2013. I also have more space since I don't have the JBL audio system, no sub on the right side.
