Tailgaters in the body shop. I'm having some custom paint work done on it. I'll post it when it's done

    Hello everyone!
I am proud owner of a 4 door 05 Taco and i am very interested in plasti dipping my whole truck. I do not have experience painting vehicles but do know how to properly spray paint. I have a few questions if you would not mind answering.
How many gallons did it take?
    How many coats?
    What kind of sprayer?
    Any problem areas?

    A little about my truck.
It has paint peeling off of the hood and several other places which is why I ask these questions.

    Would this impact the value?
    Thank you in advance!

Best place to start is dipyourcar.com
I'd use the dipsprayer system they sell.

Lots of members bash on plastidip.
Most never used it. Used it out of a spray can or just applied incorrectly.

The reason TO use dip and not a bedliner or automotive paint is..
    -Comes off easy.
    -Less prep.
-you can change colors every few years. even to Colors that change or have lots of flakes
-for much less than automotive paint.
    -Way more colors than bedliner..

    A few REAL cons are..
-it will not last more than a few years before it needs topcoat or a full recoat. Especially If using odd colors.
-really need to use quick wax or dipyourcar dipcoat $20 to make it durable and to be smooth instead of rubbery. Apply every wash or so.
-there is a slight texture because you don't wetsand or really sand anything.
-Heavy offroad use will probably peel a spot.
-can be difficult to touch up once starts to peel.

I'd imagine leaving it on when selling truck would lower the value.

I did my rims over the weekend and messed up the dip a bit on a couple of spots when putting the lugnuts back on. Has anyone tried their fixit kit for rips or tears? I did the black with silver metallic, left the center cap black and ordered some chrome lugs..it looks great!20170226_172326[1].jpg

With all the talk about durability Derping your vehicle out, has anyone just considered just painting it black ( at a shop )? Seems like longevity is a major concern with this plastidip/blackout process?

I had a rock hit the bumper cap on drivers side the next day. Walked over held a piece of cardboard and did a touch up spray. After two sprays you can even tell it was ever even a scratch into the plastic dip. Honestly if it would have been paint it would have been scratched period and for $6 in a little time you can redo it every two years period just ends on if you want to put the time into it

But the paint on your tailgate is permanent and you likely don't have to "touch it up" every year like plastidip?
