I was wondering if it would be possible to tow a 21' boat that weighs about 3000lbs on a 2016 Tacoma.

I have a Trd sport 4x2 and I'm planning to buy a boat in the near future. I've never towed a boat in my life and have no clue about towing. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Doesn't sound like you'll have any issues. Should be good to go! I will be using mine to tow my 17' boat this season. It weighs about 3500 lbs wet.

    Yes.

I'll give you a free pass on asking the question this time, but next time, read the owner's manual first.

I think a bigger question would be "can you find a 21' boat that only weighs 3000 pounds. My 19' bass cat is heavier than that factoring in the trailer, fuel, etc...

Is your bass boat made out of lead? That is absurdly heavy. I think you are seriously over estimating its weight.

Especially since I just went to the manufacturer's website and randomly picked a 20' boat, and it came up as 1800 pounds, WHICH INCLUDES THE ENGINE. Add in 150 pounds of fuel and you're still under 2000 pounds READY FOR WATER.

And then an appropriate single axle trailer, you're looking in the range of 400-600 pounds.

Oh look, all fueled up and on the trailer, still only 2500. And that's for a boat that is BIGGER than yours.

It really depends on the boat. My 17' boat has a dry weight of 1700 lbs. That is no motor, no rigging, no fuel, etc. My boat hold nearly 60 gallons of fuel. That's over 350 lbs in just fuel. Not counting the motor and gear I am over 2000 lbs for just a 17 ft boat.

Of course it depends on the style of boat.
I was just responding to brainiac there who didn't even know how LIGHT his own boat happened to be and used that false knowledge to try to claim that someone else's longer boat must therefore be even more heavy.

Holding 60 gallons of fuel, yours sounds like an offshore boat, like a center console or something. Those things have to be pretty heavy because they have to take a much greater pounding than anything made for a lake.

Yeah mine is a center console with a deep V. It's a big little boat lol. I was always curious how heavy those bass boats were though. Especially since a lot of them have 200-300 HP motors on a pretty small 18-20' boat.

I have a 20'6 center console with a 150 on it. dual axle trailer with disc brakes. loaded with a trailer i am guessing i am around 4000-4300 lbs. The issue isn't the weight but the wind resistance on the highway. around town it is underpowered and slow but gets the job done. But on my trip to the keys i got less than 100 miles on a tank driving on the highway at 70-75mph. On the way back I took the slower roads and kept it under 55 mph and got around 11 mpg.

also i towed a 7000lb skid steer on the highway and got around 11mpg. stoping was a little more of a problem than the boat but the truck did it just fine and felt safe.
