Unfortunately, CT is one of these states. Concieled carry permit to buy a hand gun, long gun or ammo. Long gun permit to buy a long gun or ammo, not any handguns. Ammo permit to buy ammo and no guns. No permit, no go. :( As of right now, nothing is required to buy powder, primers, bullets or brass... ;)

Thanks man. The history is exactly why I'm willing to jump through a few hoops to get it.

That's exactly the kind of legal tip I'm looking for. I'll need to put the screws to my dad to determine if I need to go that route. My mom specifically said she will not pick it up which is odd since she is very supportive of my ownership.

I'm generally pretty happy with AZ gun laws. I already own a few firearms, so i'm good in terms of possession.

Box was opened today. Looks like it's not a Luger but a Mauser.

Nice gun collection! There are some good penetrating oils out there that can get the rust off.

BTW Kroil is one of the better oils out there.

Me too...especially WW2 era. Were Mausers for officers or infantry? I know Lugers were only for officers.

The Mauser could be WW1 1913 or 1914. This is just a wild guess though. Does it have a caliber indicated on the other side?

Gotcha. I get spun up easily over such things as guns.

Looks to be alot of good information out there on the Mauser. Definitely an early model. The little Derringer has my interest peaked...

Done a little research and it appears to be a Belgian hamerless pocket pistol. Interesting, wonder if it was brought back with the Mauser?

That is interesting. Belgian guns are well made.

It's amazing to me that the Germans put serial numbers on all the parts of everything thay made. Even the small parts. I'm sure the Belgians are just as meticulous. That Mauser has me a little stumped.

I should rent my reloaders, had more 'old friends' contacting me to see if I still have all my setup... Next they will come for brass, primers, and bullets, there is some issues already on powders.

    On edit.

You have a Mauser model 1914, with the slide from a model 1910.

It's a civilian, as there are no waffenamt proof above the left grip.

Edit 2...Could be a very early 1914, and they were just burning up the old stock of leftover 1910 parts. That is purely conjecture, and will be evident on the fitment between the slide and frame. Also, if all the frame bits show the same last two digits of the slide's serial number I would bet surplus parts are to blame.

Edit 3...And yep, 1910/14 "transitional" made between 1914 and 1921 according to the Mauser guide book. Serial numbers started at 61000.

I'll bet these Mauser's found use in WW2...at least at the beginning like so many other weapons and equipment did.

That is some good detective work there, sir.

I'd say MOVE! But it's not that simple alot of the time. I hate that California is such a mess, I'd move there in a heartbeat for the climate and scenery but I just can't give up my freedoms. Best of luck to you and whatever state your in!

I'm about 6-7 years away from retiring (hopefully) and I'm looking at moving to Tennessee or maybe Guntucky. It's not only the gun laws but also the high cost of living and the over crowding that's driving me. I was born and breed here and it's a tough decision to make cause I still have family here.

Kentucky if a beautiful state, as is Tennessee. Cost of living is about equal in both states for the most part (East Tennessee anyway). We have race horses, Corvettes, Bourbon and the Knob Creek Machine Gun shoot (check out YouTube for video from previous shoots). There is alot of military industrial and aviation work in Kentucky as well if you think you may want to go back to work. I love it here! I may end up having to move for a few years for my career but it will always be home.
