As long as you stand on public property you can take pictures of anything. It gets complicated if its private property with public access.

Police use tactics to get to the truth...nothing wrong with that usually. They might have run your info into their system and when the address popped up in your parents name, they probably wanted to verify that.

Also guys being guys like to bust each others balls...meaning they like to give each other a hard time in a teasing kind of way. Personally I've never been good at this kind of interaction so I just let people have their fun unless I've got a witty comeback. Usually I have to know someone well before I can joke around with them.

Also police are only recently being trained in how to deal and interact with people with autism and AS. I think it would be OK to give them a pass on how they handled their interaction with you. The questioning might have seemed intrusive but I'm sure they wanted to make sure they understood the situation.

Also there might have been some activity in the area you were at and you were just at the right place at the wrong time.

I don't know anyone that likes to get pulled over by the police or questioned...it's not really their job to make everyone feel great...just safe.

I know there has been alot of haters of law and order as a by-product of our former president and his ilk, and the media has done a great job of spinning it all up, just don't let it effect you.

As a side note, there was a pedophile that lived in the same city as me and with my same first, middle, and last name. Of course his arrest made the news and everyone my parents knew was calling them asking about it. It made going to church awkward for them as well. Even a couple of college professors heard the news yet seemed confused when I showed up in class. Of course it was NOT me, but how ironic. The whole thing was kinda funny but kinda not funny. At the time I was pissed, but now it makes a weird story to tell.

So the point is that stuff happens beyond our control and nothing is ever perfect. Perfection can only be strived for but never 100% attained. Budists and Hindus have a whole belief system based on this premise. Once people can accept this, it takes the weight of the world off your shoulders. It's OK for something to be not perfect whether it's a situation or whatever. People are not perfect, but there are more good people than bad in the world.

I'll admit I didn't have the self discipline to read the entire first post, but I approve of the end results.

Everybody makes mistakes behind the wheel, even the best drivers. Everybody knows I've had a few minor fender benders, but I've never gotten a ticket, been pulled over, or even come close to totaling a vehicle. Another I pride myself on is being very defensive behind the wheel and having the common sense to actually stop at stop signs and crosswalks (It amazes me how people many run stop signs and disregard crosswalks). While driving in crowded areas, especially Doylestown, the sheer stupidity of pedestrians still amazes me and probably will for the rest of my life. Luckily I have come to expect this and I always scan the street from side to side while riding the brake pedal so I don't even come close to hitting them when I have to stop suddenly. Most people are smart enough to use crosswalks, though some people still jaywalk when the CARS have the green and they have the red. I pride myself in having a 99% clean record when it comes to stopping at stop signs with a crosswalk.

The ONE AND ONLY time I ever screwed up was sometime last fall. I was late for walk, couldn't find a parking space, and my mind was just on autopilot. Somehow I did not see a guy crossing a crosswalk while preparing to make a left turn, and I rolled the stop sign. My dashcam footage shows that while I did come to a complete stop and the pedestrian had the right of way, I did not come close to hitting him. There was close to two feet between him and my truck, but he wanted to assert his right of way and he just reached and punched the side of my Tacoma with a closed fist. I was completely unaware this guy was here until he punched the side of my truck, and it scared the shit of me. If he'd handled it any other way, even though I was nowhere near hitting him, I would have apologized and admitted responsibility because that's just the kind of guy I am. I still do not know how the hell I did not see him, and if I'd come close to hitting him, his reaction would have been understandable. However, the rear camera foot clear shows that he just stopped in the middle of the crosswalk because knew I wasn't paying attention, and then punched the side of my truck as it passed. I slammed on the brakes, flung open the door, and just bellowed at him "Don't touch my truck!" He then started yelling at me so I just shut the door and drove off. I told my boss about this immediately after it happened and she saw it as the isolated incident and total mistake that it was, but also told me that I would have probably done the same thing (punching a stranger's car) if they'd rolled a stop sign while I was crossing the street...

A few months later, the roles were reversed and I proved that I was the better person... Click here to read the other half of this saga...

    Part 1 here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-one-time-i-roll-a-stop-sign.475920/

I've had my driver's license almost 6 years, and in that time I've only had once instance where I rolled a stop sign while a person was crossing the street because I wasn't paying attention. I came nowhere near hitting the guy, and he actually stopped in the middle of crossing about two feet from from where my truck passed because he could see I wasn't paying attention. He then reached out and punched the side of my truck, and somehow I did not know he was there until he hit my truck. I knew I was nowhere near hitting him, so I was naturally pissed at him for punching my truck for the sole purpose of asserting his right of way. After I told my boss about the incident, she told me I probably would have done the same thing...

A few months later, a coworker and I went to the Acme supermarket for food and supplies. A 2-way street separates the supermarket from the parking lot, and there are two crosswalks with stop signs for each direction. The coworker and I came to the crosswalk, and I noticed a Ford Escape at the stop sign to our left. I had no reason to believe the driver hadn't seen us and wasn't waiting for us to cross. We weren't totally in the crosswalk but anyone with half a brain could see that we were properly crossing the street.

I barely stepped into the crosswalk when this Ford Escape just breezes right past me, coming within inches of my stomach. It startled me, and in response I threw up my arms and gave the driver a "What the fuck?" which the driver got a full view of through the passenger window. The guy hadn't hit me, and I had no intention of escalating the matter. As I walked around the back of the Escape, the driver abruptly braked, rolled down his window, and in a very aggressive tone said "You have a problem?" I didn't even approach him, and all I said was "Stop sign..." In response he said, "Crosswalk..." I fought the urge to say "Douchebag... or "Asshole..." in that snarky urge and just walked inside. My coworker witnessed the whole damn thing...

Upon arriving back at work, I had an "I told you so" moment with my boss. Her boyfriend was there too. I told her about the whole thing from start to finish, and said again that the guy who hit my truck had no right to do so because I was nowhere near hitting him. In my case, the guy came quite close to me but I kept my self-control and not only didn't introduce my fist to the side of his Ford but pretty much walked away from the situation. My boss, her boyfriend, and my parents all said I handled the situation perfectly. I proved to her that I was capable of keeping my cool in a similar situation and she actually praised me for it.

You don't have to answer anything or sign anything. Just present your DL and plea the fifth. You can ask the officer their name and why they approached you. If you feel like they are doing something wrong then save it for court or report them later. Let them do their thing. Don't argue with officers. Be respectful and polite.

If you are not commiting a crime, then don't worry.

You seemed to let them play you around IMHO. You should learn/know your rights as a American citizen.

I'm really trying to like you. I am. I'm just going to need some footnotes. I can't mentally read that much at one time while browsing this forum. It's not entirely your fault. I feel like I'm not alone with this. :notsure:

Will say you clearly were close enough to hitting him if he was able to punch your truck..... you hit him and it's just an insurance claim on your end and maybe a law suit...... on the flip side you hit him and he may have been killed. Keep that in mind

Yea bro, move on. That is a whole lot of thinking that got put into words. Too much of that is going to keep you stressed out. Stress is not good for you, it literally killed my sister here recently. Who gives a crap a what others think about you, put your thoughts/energy into your truck!

Op seems to have higher intelligence than most, but lacks the "socially acceptable" characteristics to "fit in". From an employers standpoint is target him to perform a task at precision without careless mistakes and ignore the fact that less productive employees might(will) find him annoying/unacceptable in the workplace. As an employer I'd avoid/ignore complaints and focus on the fact that Op is most likely more capable of the job.

    Just my opinion :pccoffee:

I worked around an aspergers "person?" today and noticed he's VERY good and thorough at his job. He's also an amazing guitar player which I envy. It's a very weird "disability?" considering the above average intelligence and specific abilities to perform better than others.

I have Asperger's syndrome and I will not lie... from the age of about 10 until I graduated high school, I struggled with authority figures (teachers, other faculty) in school and clashed with teachers. What people didn't seem to realize is that I was smart enough to know the difference between a school teacher and a cop...

Basically my dad, and various teachers over the years, were worried I would get get pulled over for something minor, mouth off to the cop, and get arrested...

I got my learner's permit (the first time) back in December 2005 when I was 16, and my dad originally planned to give me his 1996 Nissan Pathfinder as a first vehicle so that is what gave me lessons in (though sometimes he let me drive the 2002 BMW 325 convertible he had at the time). One time in May 2006 my dad giving me a driving lesson in the large parking lot of Doylestown Hospital. One important detail here is that my dad was in the Navy at the time and the Pathfinder was registered in Virginia.

Long story short, my dad gave me driving lessons in a hospital parking lot one time in May 2006 and hospital security called the cops to "two suspicious guys in a green SUV with Virginia plates circling the parking lot for over an hour." I handled myself perfectly when the cop walked up to the driver's window and all of that went well. My dad and I were both annoyed that our father/son bonding time had been rudely interrupted, but the situation was understandable. Obviously we didn't get a citation because the Pathfinder was 100% legal, we were both wearing our seatbelts, I had a valid learner's permit, and my dad had a valid driver's license... I don't think we should have been pulled over at all but it was after 9/11 so we both understood...

Until the cop started to lecture my dad about the law requiring Pennsylvania residents to register their vehicles in Pennsylvania within 30 or 60 days or whatever....

My dad did not lose control, but he was mad. Boy, was he mad. He was already annoyed that he'd basically been pulled over for giving his son driving lessons, but then to be lectured about a law he wasn't even breaking...

My dad had a Pennsylvania driver's license, but as active-duty Navy, he was not required to register his vehicle in Pennsylvania. The Pathfinder had a Department of Defense sticker on the windshield, a "FLY NAVY NAVAL AVIATION" frame on the rear license plate, and numerous military bumper stickers in the back window. Translation, how could any police officer NOT know this Pathfinder was owned by someone in the military? And even more confounding, how could the police officer not know about the military exemption...

That's what I love about my dad. He is the best dad in the world and only gets mad at people when they deserve it...

This post is NOT to say anything bad about the police...

By the way, the part I found funny is that for years my dad got on my ass about not mouthing off to a cop if I got pulled over, and then we did actually get pulled over, he's the one who got annoyed...

Someone punched the side of my truck when I accidentally rolled a stop sign but came nowhere near hitting them... I was in the same situation but the person actually did almost hit me... and all I did was throw up my hands in frustration and glare at him. The driver tried to start a fight with me when he was wrong... This is a situation that happens to the best of us and I think I proved myself the bigger man in such a situation...
