    geebus!

I would have been afraid that there would have been ice chunks hidden in the snow, big ones just waiting to cause some damage! I managed to snow blow my driveway this morning, and I **Just** hopped in the truck to see the plow come by and deposit more stuff..... *sigh* hopped back out and cleaned that up, then headed to work. I would have normally drove over it, but my wife was home with the kid and I did not want to leave it for them to deal with.

Its not all bad though, went skiing yesterday and had a fantastic time!

Well the next day it was gonna snow so I didn't want to leave my truck apart or be taking up space in the garage, cause dad likes to have his truck covered at ALL times. So I gotta wait a bit!

So I got rear ended pretty good yesterday. Tailgate is destroyed, bumper wrecked, tail lights are also gonna be trashed, my pin connector from my hitch is gone. My hitch took the brunt of the crash it looks like. Also my cap door is damaged. Also you can see where the cap and box hit my cap just slightly on one side.
I don't think the frame is bent, but I will let the collision place and adjuster look at that. I drove away, the GMC work van that hit me was wrote off. Was a heavy duty mechanic on a call that hit me, and we looked under his van, the engine had pushed his transmission off it's mount. He bent his steering wheel and shifter when he hit me.
I know most people say to have them check suspension components, and drive components as well. I've never really gone through a claim before, anybody got any tips?
Would the body shop work with me on replacing some of the parts, like the rear stock bumper with an aftermarket steel one if I pay the difference? Or is that the insurance I deal with?

I've never had to do that, but I believe you can get them to sub in parts! I think @maxpower29 did that with his hood if I remember correctly!

Make sure you stipulate that you want all NEW oem parts. Many shops will use used parts especially if they have to be paint matched. Look for hairline cracks in your cap too. Take pictures. I had a body shop drop a cap one time and cracked it down the middle. No paint broke so no one said anything....Until I got in the truck afterwards. As I was looking a young fella slipped up and said "we might have twisted it when they dropped it".....LOL....he got me a brand new cap and NOT from Action caps...Brand new leer.

Sucks getting hit. Depending on the shop they should allow you to sub in a steel bumper. Have them source a new one and price it out. Pay the difference or find something cheaper. You may have to involve your Ins broker though. That is where it gets tricky.

Thanks guys, I already told them I want new Toyota OEM parts only. I was found at no fault at all, and all is covered by the other driver. I will definitely look my cap over a little closer now, and get more pics of any more damage I find. I haven't really had to go to body shops for anything major before, so I just decided to go to O'Regans collision in Dartmouth since that is the dealer I got my truck from. Talked to appraiser today, and he said we should be able to work something out for parts upgrades or whatever. He even said I can get the replacement taillights that I have on there now, just send him the link from eBay or wherever I want to get them from. He said until they get it in the shop, they can't get an accurate estimate. He doesn't think the frame is tweaked at all, but until you get it apart, it's unsure yet. Also said it will get full alignment as well when repairs are done.
