I had a 2012 black tacoma, then a jeep, then back to a 2014 white tacoma. I loved the black tacoma. I plasti-dipped the emblem on the black truck and it looked way better up front.

Besides some personal preferences (wheel color, stubby antenna, ventshades) really the only thing that jumps out at me is the tires seem a smidge too small for the truck to look good. I'm not saying go 35's or even 33's...but what size are you running, essentially 31's?

I think compared your white one with lift and wheels, it's the difference that seems most prevalent and I'd guess would be something I'd focus on after such a switch.

Hard to beat your former ride...that looked pretty damn good.

    Maybe a slightly taller tire...are those 265's?
and for sure white letters in.

Not crazy about those wheels, but just an opinion.

Maybe black the lights?...a little more murdered.

You need to dump the gray wheels and find some sport wheels or something to contrast all the black. Sport wheels and sport mirrors would look nice. Or any aluminum machined chrome wheels.

Wash, clay bar and wax that bitch. Black like white needs to be clean and shiny.

OP I think it looks perfect like it is, but I'm old.

To buy one of these trucks new for $35,000 or so brand new and then spend thousands to mod the truck -- mainly to add size and heavy duty everything and still have a V-6 engine etc -- just isn't my thing but again, I'm old (55).

I know this isn't a popular stance to take on here, buy why not just buy a bigger truck (Tundra, F-150, Ram) from the start and be done with it?

Paint looks jacked....might just be the picture.

But having it done right can make it look 10x more black and deep instead of blueish.

Otherwise...I agree on the wheels. If you like the design see if you can get a trade for the all-black or better yet, the gold ones. Would really look good on black. Then next time, White letters IN.

Thanks for all the input guys!
I really do like the thought of blacked out projector headlights, but not looking to spend almost a grand on a good pair. I'm thinking some modification to the grill might be my next step, maybe not TRD pro, but inset mesh like the last truck?
While I would like some aftermarket black rims, I know that the TRD rims are some of the highest quality (light and strong) and really do not want to compromise function for aesthetics - my same reason for not getting a lift... As I get older I do tend to keep the mindset of Blockhead (and by the way I used to have a Tundra prior, but after I got a non-trailer-able boat, I had no need for such a big truck).

I wash my car - my paint is jacked from off-roading (which I may or may not do again) - any further tips for making it look new gain?

Chris, Here's my idea to balance it all out @ lowest cost too. You've seen those "top of windshield" tint-bands?
There are interior & exterior. You'll need the exterior. Have em cut it to your choice width; 7-8" or ?
Also see if they can match the color of that plastic part of the fronts lowest part. It looks like a medium grey but if you want a shade lighter so be it. Otherwise one of those visor deals w matching med grey color. Some few have put three clearance, tiny lights on top but that's not as tasteful as on top of cab or on front of a rack ( best ).

Just have to find a local detailer. I had the above done by a local guy on a local car forum. He is a genius when it comes to black paint. Youll fall in love with it all over again. Was well worth the $350 to bring it back to new again. Sure itll get striped up again eventually but it was 5 years worth of abuse that I was sick of looking at.

Black is a love hate relationship. When it's clean and polished, you can't get any better. However 99% of the time it's dirty, show's scrapes and blemishes.

I saw this and thought the lower valance would look good on your truck.

I think it looks sharp as is.... I will say the Tacoma is one of the best looking purely stock trucks out there. Black wasn't my first choice in color either, but when you're searching, you take the first deal that comes around :) I just hate how black shows every bit of dust, road grit, salt etc. I added a set of 3rd gen wheels to mine and I think they look pretty good on the black tacos.
