    It's a huge mistake to sink any significant amount of money into a 2WD truck if you have any desire to own an expo/overland vehicle.

    You can cruise maintained dirt roads in a 2WD truck. If that's your thing, more power to you. Watch the weather carefully and exercise the restraint to stay off the trails.

    If you want to get out there and explore off the roads, you need a transfer case and front differential to build your expo vehicle upon.

    You said it. It's the ever changing weather that pushed me back to a 4x4. I hated not having the confidence when the sand is to soft or the snow is to high.

    Totally. The article points out that if you're gonna spend money on things like a locker or a winch, may as well just sell your rig and spend that $$ upgrading to a 4WD. And you're looking for good weather and no sand. Article mentions all of that. I wouldn't drop that kinda coin on my 2WD rig, but I get it to some pretty burly places I didn't expect to drive it to. Including lots of unmaintained dirt roads. Still some good info.
