Howdy! Brand new member as of today, but a longtime Toyota driver, however brand new to Tacomas (Tacos, yes?) Do true Tacoma fans call them Tacos or not?

Anyway, I'm in the market for a Tacoma. I'd love to by used, so I'm curious what years (hopefully less than 8 years old) are the best years in terms of reliability, ease of maintenance (I'm pretty comfortable with a wrench), etc... Best overall value.

Wish list: 4x4. Double cab. Manual tranny. Good platform for future upgrades like: skids, suspension, bumpers, sliders, roof, recovery, etc... Nothing crazy - just functional.

I live in AZ, so I'll be buying from the dry southwest. I should have a ton to choose from, but hope they're not too beaten. I'm looking for any and all info. you can give.

    Thanks.
