I had a 1st Gen. great looking/working Tacoma (1998, V6 4x4, SR5, Extra Cab, mileage 210K). I really took care of her, but unfortunately, it got wrecked recently. Front/back, AC and some frame work needs to be done, but besides that, everything is in great working order. It still runs. I would like to sell this truck as is. Where would be good places to list this ad besides Craigslist? Any recommendations to what type of business (interested in obtaining those parts) I should contact (not junk yard)? Thank you.

    Susty,

Why are you so opposed to Craig's List? The 3.4 V6 engine, transmission, transfer case and axles are going to be worth something to somebody especially the motor. The body parts that have not been damaged in the collision are also worth something. If your seats are in good condition and the truck has not been smoked in, they have value as well. Start looking at Toyota specific salvage yards.

    Good Luck,
    Paul

    Hello TacomaJunkie8691,

Thanks for the quick reply. I will post the ad on Craigslist for sure. I'm looking for some other places in addition to Craigslist--I would love to sell it as soon as possible. Actually axles, radiator, timing belt, water pump were just replaced before wrecked. I appreciate for your quick reply!

If the frame is badly damaged to the point where it's bent or unfixable then that may be the point where you just need to part-out the vehicle if there's no takers for the whole thing. You can make a lot of money by parting out the engine, interior, tranny, driveshafts, etc. People part out their Tacomas all the time on the 1st gen marketplace on here.

The frame is not that badly damaged. Just towards the back of the car. I can't part out by myself so if someone wants to buy the whole thing, that would be ideal.

You learn a lot by taking apart a vehicle, it's a good skill to have. It's not that bad to do by yourself. The FSM for 1st gen Tacomas is pinned to the top of this forum, besides a good set of tools that's all you'll need. The Tacoma parted out is generally worth A LOT more than selling the vehicle as a whole. Selling the complete vehicle especially with the mileage it has will be very difficult.

The best places I could think of to sell it (complete or parted out) is Craigslist or the TW 1st gen marketplace. A scrapyard or junkyard won't give you much for it.

I would like to get your opinions on my wrecked truck. As I mentioned at the top of this thread, I have a 1st Gen. Tacoma (1998, V6 4x4, SR5, AT, Extra Cab, mileage 210K). If I fix it to the point that can rebuild a title, would it make sense to do so so that it can attract more potential buyers rather than sell it as is? But is the mileage too much of concern for most people who are looking for this type of truck? The car was running great (until it got wrecked), and it still runs. Nothing is wrong with engines. Here is a picture to give you an idea--interior and Exterior is still looking great and it has a canopy. Only visual damage from outside is front end and back bumper.

    Susty,

There is a lot of value there in what you have got. I am going to send you some contact information.

    Take it easy,
    Paul

post more picks of the damage (other angles) and most likely you can put parts back on to make it usable.

I'm in PNW. Contemplating whether fix it or leave it as is. I prefer my truck to be keep running happily forever somewhere instead of parting out, but it all depending on the cost of fixing, etc...

You don't show us very good pics of the damage but pretty sure it can be fixed if it's as you described and no rusted/rotted frame.

The cost of fixing it depends on if you are going to fix it or pay a body shop or somebody else. All the info on parts and such can be had right here with help on the forum and might even get help from somebody on here that is local. If you were near me I'd help you.

As far as 210k miles , not a problem if it's been maintained and is just getting broken in. My friend has 540k miles on his 97 with a 2.7 and 90% of the parts are original. He rebuilt the engine at 480k and is his daily driver. Heck there's another guy on the forum with close to a million miles on his Taco at last report. Here's his 97....

@harper7, I appreciate your advice on this. Sounds like the mileage is not a big of the deal--that's great to know. A body shop said there were some rust on the frame, but not rotted. Does it make a difference to buyers? It seems like it is common things happen for the 1st gen Tacoma. A shop said the frame is still fine, but the bent part needs to be fixed.

The car is still in a shop so I haven't taken detailed pictures. Still trying to figure out what to do with the truck.
