I saw his pic in the OC meetup thread and remember meeting him at the belching beaver meet. He was super nice. I guess he got banned and then caught using his father-in-laws account, so the mods banned that one too.

Thank you, Jason for squeezing me in for the second synthetic oil change on my Tacoma! We got it done after Mathew and before the big storm!

Castrol Edge 5w-30 at 96,000 miles, 8,000 since the last change. Oil looked darker but still transparent. This is double the miles I have ever gone between dyno oil changes. Using Toyota factory oil filters.

Jason isn't joking about being busy. I'm scheduled to take my truck to him Monday to get some parts installed. Great guy and does awesome work.

Have you tried using Amsoil? I use it more out of convenience (once a year oil changes) and have not noticed any issues in about 4-5 years of use on all sorts of cars/trucks (everyone in my family now uses it).

No, I do 12,000 miles in a slow year, every 8-10 will be my top limit on oil changes. It is far too cheap a servive and far too important to the engine to wait a year, in my opinion. I will listen to what has you stoked on Amsoil, however.

Well, living in a condo where I'm not supposed to work on my cars/trucks, I decided to start looking for ways to minimize my time in the garage at night with the garage door closed...haha. My wife puts around 4-6k a year max on her car nowadays (98 Honda Accord with close to 250k miles, original engine but trans was rebuilt at around 200k miles), I wait the full year before performing an oil change on her car.

On my truck I average anywhere from 12-16k a year (one year I put close to 30k). It's an 02 with around 210k miles now. So, I don't quite reach a full year before oil changes on it. Like you, I get to around 8-10k miles and do an oil change.

I never did any type of testing but just based on the way both vehicles run and comparing how the oil "looks" I feel comfortable sticking with Amsoil. Plus, it's easy to order and have it delivered when I need it.

I haven't shopped around since I've been using Amsoil for a while now. At the time I remember researching online and talking to friends and everyone had their own opinion. I decided to give Amsoil a try and have been using them since (their oil is supposedly good for 25k normal use/15k miles severe use, same with their oil filters). Not trying to steer you towards what I use, just giving you another option.

More info on the 8-10k oil please! Is this just regular synthetic or something special?

Oh, no big thing, I just switched to 100% synthetic at 88,000 miles on my 2010 Tacoma. It was the first time I used that for motor oil. This was just the first replacement of the oil and filter since then (96,000 miles). I used Castrol Edge.

Previously, I went to my dealer every 4,000 miles for an oil change (on all three of my Tacomas). Since all the other lubricants in my truck (tranny, transfer case, differentials) are synthetic, I just switched. Synthetic has double the life of dyno, ie. 10,000 miles instead of 5,000 miles between changes. I change the motor oil (and filter) sooner than the recommendation... so now at 8,000 instead of 10,000 miles.

@David K Do you use the Extended Performance version?

@Mcdees84 I use Amsoil Signature Series.

I hear really good stuff about that oil. The turbo charged guys with big power love it.

I did this time, not the first time, however. Sale at Auto Zone .

EDIT: It was Edge "High Mileage" not "Extended Performance" I got.

Amsoil. Ton of data on forums doing lab test on used oil how good it is.

I see. Interested to see if you feel/see any difference between the two.

I remember reading/seeing results on bobistheoilguy but that was years ago. Glad Amsoil is still doing well. I think I'll keep my membership for now.
