    Damn I think 210 for the 130amp. I believe its a reman stock unit with some more beef.

    I've done a mod or two
    I'm running a 120 with 2 gauge to everything and I don't see any major voltage drop with all lights on heater blower and stereo blasting. Those things never occur all at once when you're winching or airing up so no worries there.

    Wow, just now finding this thread. Question about Ham radio...I'm looking to get into it and am currently looking at the Yaesu FTM-100dr and FT7-900r. I am not sure if the digital unit is worth the extra money over the analog one. It is my understanding that you can't transmit APRS while on a different frequency to communicate with your group with that particular radio. Do you know anything about the 100dr radio? I saw some youtube videos of it using wiresX and that looked neat. I'm just not sure if I would use the APRS in it.

    I don't know a lot about it. But looking at it it looks like a great radio.

    It has built in APRS so you are goo there. One channel would be tuned to the APRS Freq and the other ch to whatever your friends are using.

    No dual band radio can transmit on both sides at the same time. So if you are talking the APRS side won't transmit. But if you aren't, it'll transmit no problem.

    Now if the Digital part is worth it, that is a tough call. Digital formats are currently proprietary by brand. Yaesu's is called Fusion. Icoms is DSTAR for instance. They only talk to themselves. So like i have an Icom 5100 and if i flipped to digital and you had this Yaesu we couldn't talk. Until just last fall, when Kenwood released a Dstar radio. That kind of signaled to everyone that DSTAR is "winning" the battle for digital formats(there are a couple others).

    So is it worth getting the digital radio? Hard to say. You could look at your are around you and if there are a lot of Fusion Repeater it would be cool to mess with. I love digital ham radio's features. APRS is built in to every broadcast, the Callsigns appear as well and messages and distances. Just cooler and even easier to work then Analog.

    But, if there isn't the support for it in your area, id skip it. Right not digital formats don't have the infrastructure that analogs do and APRS infrastructure is great. So you'll still be using APRS no matter what.

    Wow, thanks for that response. I was thinking the 100d would be "future proof" as it seems like the infrastructure will only be growing. With APRS, is there a way to send out a distress beacon if you ever become in need of search and rescue?

    well you can change your message to say SOS, you can message someone else, or email someone else.

    Again, hard to say if it would be or not. I know DSTAR is getting semi popular out west finally. Was decent coverage midwest and east.

    My Dad built a repeater and it just speaks DSTAR, Fusion, PL20 and DMR as well as just good old Analog so he covered all his bases for our area.

    Looks like there are fusion repeaters in Dallas (I'd be surprised if there weren't) and also one or two up in northwest Arkansas. Hm...

    Just took a look at the Icom website and it looks like the only mobile unit they have that is digital is the one you got. I don't want something that big so it looks like my decision has been made. Unless I'm missing something on their site.

    No you can make the 880h DSTAR or the 2820 as well. The 7100 is too but that bastard is insanely expensive.

    I bet the Yaesu will be a great rig though.
