Anyone compared crash ratings between Tacoma and Ridgeline?

What? The frame was bowed at the rear axle and bed mashed into the cab. The bloody AC system was the last thing on my mind at that point. Of course I lived in Washington at the time and AC was used as often as sunscreen.

Just open the tailgate and let it blow all over the highway. I don't even let that crap bother me anymore.

I figured out how to get people to not use my bed as their trash can. Don't shop at Wal-Mart.

If what happened to your truck happened to mine, I would be pissed if the insurance company fixed it. What I'm saying is that if I was involved a moderate wreck where there was damage to the A/C condenser but there was no structural damage and the truck was safe, I would still be worried that my A/C would leak...

One of my favorite things about my Tacoma is that summer after summer, I turned on the A/C and it always blows cold...

I'm on the same transmission. Feels about as strong as it was when I got the truck pre-owned at 20k. I've dropped the pan 3 times to clean out and inspect the transmission condition. During one of those times I installed some spacers to hydraulically alter the shift speed by reducing the accumulators ability to cushion the shift. The A340E has been around forever and used by everyone it has different names example in Jeeps it's known as an AW4.

There are a lot of 2.7's out there with well over 200,000 miles with nothing but routine maintenance. From what I have read they are just as good as the 2.4. Mine has 155,000+ on it and other than a water pump and a battery replaced under warranty when my dad (the original owner) had it I have done very little other than replacing my suspension. It does need a tie rod replaced but the play is very minimal at this point. Almost non-existent. I'm going to replace all the tie rods this summer. I already bought them from Toyota. I replaced the headlight housings also with factory Toyota housings because of the ridiculous plastic lenses used on every vehicle these days. I would have just polished them but I broke the tab off that retains the retaining clip for the bulb on the passenger side and so once I bought the new housing for the passenger side I figured I'd get a new driver's side as well since the plastic lens was all fogged up from oxidation like they all do. Then I applied about 50 coats of liquid glass to them hoping that will stall future oxidation of the cheap assed plastic lenses. There really should be a law against using plastic lenses for headlights. I drove a 1973 Cadillac Coupe DeVille for 18 years as my only car until I got this Taco and I replaced the headlights once. That was the best damn car I ever owned and I have owned many over the decades. So far, this Taco has already eclipsed the Caddy and I hope it will continue to do so. Maintenance wise. The Taco or any other car these days fails in comparison to the joy and sound of a huge V8 and the way an old Caddy floats down the road at 90 mph. I had to spend a whole lot of my time doing maintenance on the Caddy that I don't have to do on the Taco but that was just because of older engineering.

I also replaced the suspension with OME 880's up front, Deaver J59's leafs in the rear and Nitrochargers all the way around which is normal for anyone who owns one of these trucks. The stock suspension sucks right from the show room floor but this one had 125,000 on it when I did that. My dad drives so slow he never even noticed how bad the suspension sucked. This Taco never even saw 3000 rpm until I got it at 119,000 miles. Other than that everything is still just as it was from the factory when new. I did replace the belts which I probably didn't even have to replace but I'm a maintenance freak when it comes to my vehicles. I like to replace things I even "think" might fail before I get stranded. Which is why this summer I will also replace the starter even though it works just fine. It is 13 years old after all. Well, I will at least buy one from Toyota and have it sitting here just in case. Having a break down along with a tow bill where I live in a winter blizzard is something I'd rather avoid. At least if it happens I don't want to wait for a new part since this is my only vehicle at this time and when it comes to electrical parts I spare no expense since I've been screwed so many times trying to save money on cheap aftermarket parts on other vehicles over the years. Laying on your back on the side of the road replacing an alternator or a starter in a parking lot to avoid a tow bill isn't my idea of fun. My truck gets nothing but Toyota parts so far and as long as I can afford them that's what it will get. Those two headlight housings cost almost $400.

I've actually had my local Taco dealer talk me out of buying parts I wanted to replace prematurely. Almost everything I asked them about got a response of, "That part is good for the life of the vehicle". At 155,000 I guess the "life of the vehicle" isn't over yet. I have a Gen 1 4X4 5 speed manual and from what I have read 300,000 miles with the 2.7 is almost routine. I expect to go at least 250,000 before I have to start worrying about anything major. Mine idles rough when it's cold but I suspect I just need to clean the IAC or maybe even replace it and none of that may even be necessary since it only idles rough in the winter. I suspect it just needs a grille cover to get the engine temp up over 180 degrees so the computer and emissions systems work properly. I already bought the grill cover but it's been so cold outside I'll wait until summer to install it to raise the running temp when it gets really cold. Another winter below 180 degrees isn't going to kill it I don't think.

I have the tyger cover from Amazon. It's a tri fold and I think I paid less than $200 for it.

I've got a Retrax but it's not cheap though. It locks rolls on bearings and will last the life of the truck. Due to moving regularly I needed to be able to secure my stuff between residences as well as a lot of other work too. I use to have a guy throw trash in the bed of my previous truck back in the day. I grabbed as much trash as I could one day and filled his up lol. He got the hint lol

As someone who has owned a 22RE in a '92 pickup, I still don't know what the hype is. I sold the truck with 220k on it but it had needed more "maintenance" to get there than any other vehicle I ever had. Valve adjustments, timing chain eating the guides, a blown headgasket, etc. plus no power and mediocre fuel mileage doesn't add up to legendary status people give them.

I like my new 2.7 much more but can't speak to long term reliability yet. Just broke 33k.

In the same boat I've had 3 94 pickups before my 06 they are 100k mile motors and need timing chain water pump and all that..... more times than not they need a full rebuild!!! I bought 2 of the 3 I owned knowing they needed rebuilt and did it myself parts are cheap for the 22.... my 2.7 runs smoother and with 140k I hope to drive it well over 250 with not many problems

Same one who is de facto head of security at the bar where I work...

Instead of actually using a certain really vulgar word...

    C-U-Next-Tuesday

He told me about some guy who showed up drunk and started abusing his ex-girlfriend right there in front of the bar, and instead of actually using the C-word, this is what he said...

Bouncer's like, "He called her a C-U-Next-Tuesday and then things kinda went downhill from there."

I went outside to bring in the garbage and this 20-year old guy who'd just been dishonorably discharged from the Air Force comes running up my driveway saying people are after him and he needs to hide...

This is a true story, and it's long, but I'll let you just ask questions...

Ask whatever the hell you want... You can't make this shit up...
