just replaced the front diff seal and it's still leaking pretty bad. I am pretty sure I put it in the same way it came out...I have found these tri pics online. One looks different. Which one is facing backwards? Which is correct?

Mine looks like bottom pic image.jpgimage.jpg

the bottom of the seal at the spot where the oil is oozing out on the top picture looks fubared like it has been pinched,

the seal on the bottom picture looks like a blown out hookers butthole that needs to be pushed back in

That side up should be facing out when installed into the diff.

Only thing I can suggest is to verify that you have the correct part number, the seal isn't damaged, the seal is flush all the way around when installed. And make sure that the shaft is inserted all the way, I believe that's why its leaking.

This is how I shove the shaft in..

Thread on the 35mm nut on the outer stub to protect the threads, insert the inner stub into the diff and make sure you have the c-clip in the groove, place a block of wood against the 35mm nut and smack the shaft into the diff with a dead blow a few times. the smacks should sound different when it's fully seated.

I can pull the shaft slightly away from the housing...but if the clip wasn't seated would I be able to pull the axle far out of the diff ?

Those things are miserable. I had an awful time pulling the old one and mangled the new one when I put it in. Ended up having the dealer do it.

The service manager at the dealer told me this too. He asked for a day to get the OEM part because he said whenever they put in an aftermarket seal, the truck comes back and they have to do it again. He said they've never had to do an OEM seal twice.

Make sure that you put a little gear oil on the seal where it contacts the axle face. Not doing so can cause leaks.

You could also try leaving it in the freezer for a while before installing it. It may shrink just enough to allow for easier install.

Hey Anthony, I have an OEM seal brand new in the package. You can have it for free if you want just got to pick it up from me. PM me if you want it.

It's Toytota Genuine Toyota 90311-47027 Type-T Axle Shaft Oil Seal.

Here is a picture of my factory diff seal when I did the ECGS bushing. I left my seal alone.

My driver side just started leaking bad. Like a cup of gear oil every 100 miles. When I grab the axle and wiggle it vertically i get about 1mm of play. Is the movement normal? Do i just need a seal or does this mean I need a new axle or whatever component in the Diff keeps it still.Ill post a video shortly

I couldn't find any videos but use a 2" pvc to drive the seal in ...install it flush...take careful not to the direction of the stock seal...the movement is normal
