In all reality it will be the same price to trade in for a 4x4 as it would be to install a 4x4 kit on it

I would not waste any further money if you truly wish to off road. Save your money and go buy a 4x4 with the factory e-locker, then down the road arb front locker.

Locker is useless without good tires.

anymore guys add the arb to the prerunner? I don't offroad often but like to hit trails when I go camping. Nothing crazy. How much has the locker helped your 2wd? I already have good tires and lifted. So far I've gotten through some moderate fire trails

There is a guy selling a complete e-locker rear end for a grand in classifieds. That would be the easiest and cheapest way to go. A little bit more in wiring/switch and you're locked.

Your two rear tires are about 5 ft apart. For a rear locker to be effective, the terrain has to be really different within those 5 ft.

I had a locked 3rd gen 4runner before my Tacoma. The locker helped quite a bit for the trail running I did. You wont be climbing any boulders but for the driving you described you will notice a difference.

I had a lockRite locker in the rear of my old 4Runner. I left it in 2wd for as long as possible because the 3.0 was such a gutless turd. I was impressed where that 4Runner could go in 2wd with a locker. I had to give it a bit more hell sometimes, but the locker absolutely and definitely helped.

that's what I figured. Good to hear. It's no wonder I see so many TRD Offroad prerunners in southern California. It seems every first gen prerunner is the Offroad trim.
