    I'm in SW Ohio.
Forgot to mention how clean your truck is underneath. Nothing around here is that way.
It's really nice to see all the discussion, ideas and help offered on TW .

OP, great thread! I'm in the beginning stages of a conversion on my 3.4L 03' prerunner. And by beginning I mean just looking at a parts list ahah. Found a guy on CL that has pretty much everything except the tranny, & as of now I'm debating manual hubs vs ADD. Hoping I could pick your brain a bit. Do you know anything about connecting my original 2wd tranny with the compatible 4wd output shaft? I'll have to search which transmission number it was, but I've heard it's possible... Anyway, great job!

Getting a similar transmission with the transfer case attatched is always the cheaper route to go, what part of Cali are you in @YotaGurlIAm? Go ADD and do the lockout mod

Right on I'm from San Diego, lots of good parts only 5 hours away out here in Arizona. I frequently make trips back and forth as my grandparents have a house in Oceanside near the beach

A little bit of an update, at 270,500 about 4-5k of 4wd consistently being equipped and daily driving to and from work. The Tacoma World meet in AZ was HUGE! It was sick to see so many options for the tacomas uniqueness in person. Here some pics of my bad girl getting put to use, 4wd Conversion for the win.

Out by my house in Avondale AZ, with the rear locker on and my front locked I can climb anything my tires can touch haha.

Out at the Tacoma World meet in AZ, my YouTube channel has some video. We went out with some real cool dudes, @YotaGuy @thunderklees amd I forget the other bro.

So a 3rd gen 4runner say 01/02 tranny and all parts needed will fit on a 1st gen tacoma?!

Great job and write ups man! Where is info on this ADD lock out mod you talk about? I searched and couldn't find it.

If your ever over this way(Tulsa OK)I have a near mint front end ,lights and bumper for a 2000 if you want it,it's just collecting dust in my shops attic. I converted mine over to a 97 front and tube bumper .

I'm going to pm you for that list of parts needed to do the conversion too. I have a wrecked 98 4x4 parts truck,v6 automatic with ADD I bought from a friend and will get all the parts pulled and together for someone to do the conversion and sell them pretty cheap. My 2000 4X4 TRD only has 90k miles so doubt I'll need them for back ups any time soon. His son rear ended somebody on the 98 and I was going to replace the front clip but decided to just part it out.

Ahhhhhhhhhh I may pick up a second ADD with 4.10s and take detailed pics of the lockout because it was and is very effective with that ADD front driveterrain that is otherwise simply more prone to fail, still a good system if you understand. I've been trying to work up to getting the steeel and finally made an order, we'll see how it goes but I'm ready to wrap it up and do the cage over the cab.

That's awesome you converted it, did the homework prior to doing so, and it was affordable.

It's a BEAST. 4.10s and manual shift transfer case 2:1 in 4lo it does pretty good.

Thanks for your share. I'm doing this project in the near future. I finally found a four door tacoma with under 127000 miles. I also found a video of how to convert my transmission to 4x4 ant that will save cash. I'm really excited to start this project.

When you can buy a complete tranny and transfer case all day out here for $300-400 it's easily more expensive to convert the 2wd transmission with the different output shaft.

I wish mine was a 4 door and had remotely near 150,000 miles ha I'm about double that. I'm going to be buying a 4 runner and converting it next

My explanation of it would be turning the ADD system into a locked in "engaged" position front diff wich would make for a locked front differential that doesn't need hubs. Some prefer guns but to me they are a typical fail point in the trail
