I have had 3 seperate occasions when merging onto interstate that my 17 DB tacoma v6 does not want to shift out of 4th gear. I have had to let all the way off accelerator before transmission would shift into 5th. Anyone else had this happen?

What speed/RPMs are you seeing during this event? I assume you are saying that it fails to shift after you reach your cruise?

Is the truck still cold or is it at normal operational temp?

A lot of stuff, just ask and I'd be happy to tell you. Or we could wheeling/camping
All of the above are factors? Are you still in the throttle?

Are you counting the gears at a standstill? Are you sure it's still in 4th?

FYI, if you're accelerating and merging onto the highway it's possible (and normal) for the truck to stay in 4th until you reach cruising speed where it will bump up to 5th or 6th depending on speed and rpm.

Likely another low Tranny.... Unless it's a manual. In that case "you forgot to shift"....It's a 5 speed.

This has happened in my truck a few times as well on flat after climbing a hill or meging etc, it will hold the gear so long that the rpms are 4500rpm+ let foot off the throttle for about 10 seconds before it finally shifts up.

Normal operating temp and 3300-3500 rpms when I let completely off accelerator

Mine does the same on ECT mode. It takes forever from 4th gear to go into 5th. This is one cruise speed. Driving me nuts!
