NO! Put the radio UNDER the truck. That way you can call for help when you're underneath working on something.

 

One of the many plus factors of owning a raised truck! Ease of working under them! I remember changing the oil in mine when I first got it and it was sitting stock. Damn near had to call the fire dept to get me out from under it.

 

BTW....Had to pull off I64 at Shelbyville on the way home. Could not stand it any longer

I have a brand new Cobra Ultra III laying on my work bench. I would have brought it along and hooked it up to use as a way of testing the antenna/coax. The more I think about it, the less suspect I am about the wiring and antenna. Pretty sure the primaries have been compromised and the radio is the culprit.

 

I was going to suggest buying a cheap radio just to plug in and confirm whether it's your radio or something else. Then you can return the radio to the store if you want/need to after using it for diagnosis.

 

A good CB shop can test a radio and give you a diagnosis of what is wrong. That'll usually run $25 or $30. When you're talking about a $40 radio, it's just not logical to spend the money and then find out it's bad, THEN have to buy another radio. Just as simple to punt and start fresh with a new radio from the get-go. My meter has a power output function. When we tested Everett's radio, it would literally peg the needle, which is not normal. SWR readings were off the chart.....Best we could get was in the 4.0 range, high and low channels. Goal is 1.5 to 2.0, with 2.5 acceptable

 

Agreed. Think we ruled out the antenna pretty well.

I'll probably try this first. Easy enough with the truck stop just down the road. Then a cable I guess.
