Went to Stone Mountain today hoping for a decent day since it was in the high sixties but didn't even see a fish. One of the other fishermen there told me the ranger told him that poachers had been taking a lot of fish out of the streams in the last two weeks. There were fish in every hole last time I was there. It is a shame that people do that, especially when there are hatchery supported waters close by.

Nope, there is a big problem here in NC with people taking way more than the allotted amount in the stocked streams. A couple years back I saw a report of a guy that had several hundred pounds of trout in a freezer. They were going in the night after trucks dropped off the fish with a big net. Pretty pathetic...

That's just as bad. Happens here Maine too. People follow the stocking truck. Sucks for the true Sportsman/Sportswoman.

Mostly the DH section, but you still aren't allowed to take any fish until sometime around the beginning of June. That is crazy ctsnow13 and I agree that it's a big problem around here. I may have to try Elk Creek like you said this Saturday since it's the last weekend.

Only the hatchery supported streams are closed off starting march 1st. You can still fish the delayed harvest waters, you just can't keep anything until August I think. And of course the wild waters will be open. So it's definitely not the last weekend...there are plenty of places to go.

Same with PA. I almost wish they did close some streams during the spawn to give the poor fish a break, especially the ones famous streams that get hammered with pressure year round

I know I was thinking Elk Creek was hatchery supported but I see now it's delayed harvest. They make this much more confusing than what it needs to be haha.
Even if you're streams are closed right now, I'd much rather be in Wyoming fishing than in NC haha

My buddies and I drove way up north in Wisconsin this past weekend thinking the bigger freestone rivers would be open since it's been unseasonably warm. We didn't think to call any local shops to verify. Yep, all frozen still. Thankfully we still have the spring creeks, most notably in the Driftless area, which are flowing very well.FullSizeRender 2.jpgFullSizeRender.jpg
