Nice pic angle of the exhaust. I also feel throttle response is noticeable. It's certainly a big change from the stock set up.

The price I got was from anything auto. Searched for a promo code to get 20% off. Does anyone have this mbrp exhaust S5338409?

Pich - your photo looks like it may be it. Curious to know how people think it sounds. I like a little noise but I don't want it catch too much attention and I want to be able to hear my podcasts. I heard it on a manual 3.5L yesterday.

Another thing he had, which blew my mind, was power locks in his tailgate. I am so ordering that today!!!

    Thanks Guys

Any thoughts about change intake vs. exhaust? I'd like a little better sound and better MPH/power would be nice. Reviews suggest intake can add 10hp and nice sound. The exhaust will give me sound but not many people talk about performance. Would love to hear what people think. If I did get a k&n, would that impact my warranty? 2016 Tacoma 3.5.

    Thanks!!!

If you ever have any trouble just re-install your stock air intake before you go in for service....

More chance of getting power from intake rather than exhaust unless you are doing an entire exhaust rebuild I would say. But I have done neither so far on my truck.

Because I live in south Texas, I'm not so worried about rust so I ordered the installer series (aluminized Steel). The part number is S5338AL. It's the same style and performance, just aluminized steel VS stainless.
If you live anywhere above the Mason Dixon line or live on the coast, I'd not get the aluminized steel; it'll rust too soon.

I'll let you know how it sounds next weekend bud.

My take on the matter is this: if you're going to do a quality exhaust, you may as well do a quality intake considering their relation. An exhaust with more free-flow is going to benefit from an intake sucking in more air. (straight up rocket science ;)).

And yeah, power locks for the tailgate are coming soon to compliment my soon-to-come bed tent camper setup.

An air intake will most likely give you more performance over an exhaust. However, the question is how much will you actually gain? The best is obviously an air intake / exhaust combo. I went with a k&n drop in filter. I know for sure that won't void your warranty. Not sure on a complete air intake system.

any intake or exhaust mod should not void factory warranty because they are entirely bolt on performance mods. there is nothing that has to be modified to install these upgrades. so as far as performance goes with these basic mods you will not gain very much in hp or mpgs. they are really just for sound. the only real way to get any noticeable hp gain is to SC. that's with any toyota engine. I have everything you can bolt on the engine that is CA c.a.r.b legal beside the SC and I have not noticed any mpg gains just a slim amount of throttle response.

Thanks all....much appreciated. Phich, do you have a long bed for that tent? With by double cab/short bed combo, I'm not sure I could swing that.

Thanks again.....probably going intake and will consider exhaust down the road. Baby steps

I've got the short bed. There a few bed tent setups that incorporate the tailgate as space. I'm 6' even and it'll work just fine. If I was 6'4"+ I'd be in a tent on the ground or a rooftop tent.
Long bed is too much truck for me - plus a short bed can get you out of your friends asking to move big furniture items;)

How is the exhaust noise running at steady highway speeds? does it get annoying, seems like you can probably hear it constantly?

I attempted to get a video this morning, but the damn wind wouldn't allow me too. Yes, I can hear it constantly.. If I had to guess on a scale from 1-10... I would give it a 7 for constant freeway noise. Personally, I don't mind the noise.. However, I can see one being annoyed on a 2 + hour trip. Hope this helps. I will try to get a video for you after work.

Just installed my MBRP exhaust tonight. TRD16 has the turn down exhaust - I have the system that exits behind the passenger rear tire, just like the stock exhaust. The MBRP really sounds great. Honestly it was a little louder than I wanted, but after an hour of driving it has really grown on me. The highway drone is there, yes. TRD16 puts the turn down drone at a 7 on a 1-10. I would put the exhaust I got drone at a 5.
With windows down and wind noise it is barely noticeable.
Add some Zeppelin at a reasonably loud volume and the drone is nearly gone :headbang:

Edit: I will say the highway wind noise in my '03 PreRunner was more annoying than the drone of the new MBRP.

All in all, this exhaust is for the driver who can deal with a mild to moderate highway drone, and who wants a nice tough sound that isn't quite going to piss off the neighbors.

I'm quite pleased with it personally.

***If you can't deal with some drone do not get the MBRP.***

Thanks bud. Install was a breeze. I had the stock off and the MBRP on within an hour. Not including the time I had to cut the front pipe. On the model I got you have to cut 13.25" off to make it fit a short bed. No big deal at all but I had no blades for my sawzall and it was too late to hit Lowe's so I had to use a damn dull rinky-dink little shit hack saw lol. Aside from that, piece of cake!

I'm adding an AFE cold air intake on Friday. I hope it doesn't turn the MBRP into a beast noise-wise! If it does, the neighbors will just have to deal

Hack saw! Holy shit dude, I commend you on your dedication and great achievement. I too had to cut mine for a proper fit. I was actually amazed on how easy it was to install. I couldn't be happier. Oh, and to your neighbors, Merica!! :oldglory::brianr:

Awesome posts, thank you. I like the idea of a new intake, possibly before exhaust. I've always wanted a bed tent, kids are getting old enough to camp so it's only a matter of time

So, added the AFE CAI with the scoop today. Sound with the MBRP is pretty much the same but a touch deeper, which I like.
Lost a tiny bit of power on the low end shift from 1st to 2nd gear (*feels like* a rich fuel mixture), but definitely has more torque at road and highway speeds. Noticed less downshifting on the highway. The same hills the tranny was downshifting to 4th only downshifted to 5th (on cruise control).
    Very pleased about that!

Nice. You got to post up a video of that intake! I bet your truck sounds sick!
