    Sorry, should have been more clear. You are correct, the northern beaches do not require a permit. They are not part of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. If you plan to drive the beach from Oregon Inlet and southward, including Hatteras Island and Ocracoke, you will need to purchase the required permits and drive only in the desiginated areas.

    Yall are thinking of soft loosen sand... He will be going to the beach where he could see mounds and water puddles or wet soft sand. Slick streets tires do NOT work in all sand environment lol. Just air down drive with momentum over softer and/or wetter sand and bring a shovel, floor mat and straps.
