I think you would be better off (and much cheaper) using a laptop cable lock and attaching it to something solid in the truck, and hiding the laptop in the rear storage compartment.

I question...what person is going to break into the truck, have so much time to find the rear storage compartment, then break the cable lock, without damaging the laptop, that they wouldn't it have been easier to just take the truck? Plus then the criminal has a 35k+ truck and a sweet laptop.

i'd rather not have my laptop destroyed by a pissed off thief that is unable to steal it. i have no numbers to cite, but people who break into vehicles seem far more likely to take whatever they can grab and have zero interest in stealing an entire vehicle.

Fwiw I got one of those esp boxes, it's well made, but the one I got doesn't appear to fit too well, it's sort of too high in the middle. It was impossible to get the middle fasteners in with the parts supplied. I stuck it in the garage for now and will try it again later. I might have to get some longer screws and see if that will make it work.

These assholes do a smash and grab and are not going to stick around to work too long and hard at it. I don't see them destroying your laptop because they can't run off with it. They will simply grab what they and move on.

    Something like this will work.

it's more complicated than that. i go ride my bike. people know that when they see you take off into a trail with your bike that you won't be back for a little while. the parking lots are often secluded or not in the main part of a park that has a lot of traffic. i would imagine that a thief would have all the time they need/want since no one would really know if they belong in the truck or not.

ESP Lockable Rear Seat Storage, MobTown Lockable Bed Hatches, lots of cool Mobtown products (Rear Bumper, complete set of 1/4" steel skid plates, sliders), Old Man Suspension and a bunch of other practical off-road tools to bulletproof my truck...
I've got one of the ESP locking units under my rear seat...great product and well worth the expense. I am able to carry a couple of handguns and a rifle under there and still have room for "other" valuables...if it is worth securing this is the way to do it...

In the end it's a metal locking cover on a plastic box. I would think to be easy enough to pry free of the plastic. Unless I'm missing something.
