I've been looking at the cab and bed combinations on the toyota build your own website. I think I want a 6 foot bed. Why does it seem that most trucks sent to dealers are double cab with short beds?

Does anyone want to discuss the different cab and bed options?
What did you buy and why?

Welcome! I would say that the double cab long bed isn't as popular because people who are buying these trucks aren't buying them to primarily haul stuff around. For a lot of people, the short bed works just fine for their needs.

Driving around town can be an adventure. The 5 foot bed is shorter truck; try driving them around town. If the longer 6 foot bed does not bother you then its a matter do you need the extra capacity to haul your toys, junk and stuff.

I may be getting into an electrician program soon, or working with a carpenter, or maybe neither... I don't know what my needs are yet.
I like the idea of DCLB.
I drive a 2001 civic. Easy to park. I'm single and rarely have any passengers. So I was thinking access cab long bed to save money. and how much shorter would that be than double cab long bed.. hmmmmmm

I have a DCLB and it was the best decision I've ever made. I didn't even anticipate hauling shit around in it... but I have. It has come in handy more times than I ever expected. Yes, it's a pain in the ass because it's long as hell. There are actually some parking spots in town that I just plain don't fit into because they're too short. But it really has never been a big issue. For me, having the option to carry bigger stuff outweighs the length inconvenience.

good idea, go big just in case. At this point I just plan to haul tools and material. I still need to think cover and security

Always assume you're going to haul more than you think you will... this has served me well and been true on many occasions. Plus, I have a big ass toolbox in the bed, which actually takes up quite a bit of room. Luckily, I bought mine with a canopy, so I have that alternative option for cover, but I don't drive it with the canopy often.

Also my DC back seat is never big enough... just sayin. I never could've survived with an AC.

I would go with a double cab if you plan on keeping the truck long term, situations change and down the road the DC may come in handy.

Will the truck be for work or primarily your personal vehicle? It's possible even a long bed won't be enough at some point, and you'll want a high-roof Sprinter van with stand-up interior:

I'm not sure from the website what the big difference is from sr to sr5, what are you getting for the difference in price?
