I have a 2013 DCSB 2.7 PreRunner. My first tank of gas was a trip to Tahoe which is a lot of hilly driving though it is all highway, when I got home from the weekend my average MPG was 27. My average tanks are 22-23 MPG. 27 MPG is my high so far, but I haven't spent a whole tank driving on the highway since then, and on that 27 MPG trip I was pretty much staying at 55 or 60 MPH the entire trip and accelerating like I just drove it off of the lot, which I did.

I don't drive like a grandpa now and have 11k miles. My mileage is consistently in the 22-23 MPG zone, though.

I have a 2013 Toyota Tacoma Pre runner Double Cab SR5 4 cylinder. Very disappointed with gas mileage. I bought this truck used with 30,000 miles. It was well taken care and have all service records. Truck is getting 14mpg city and 15.5 on hwy. If I had known this I would have never purchased this truck...would have gotten 6 cylinder.

Does it have any modifications? Have you checked your intake air filter? Maybe you need a tune up.

Toyota Local Dealership checked it all out....found no issue. I mean a 4cylinder getting 14-16 MPG.....thats pitiful. The only thing I can think of is the little 4 cylinder has zero ass and the Double Cab is a heavy little truck....that engine must have to work overload ???

Mines a double and I get over 27 mpg all the time. The double cab is about 110 lbs heavier than the single btw. hopefully some of the more mechanically inclined guys here will help eventually. It's odd with 30k miles that you're having that problem. I would think try to add some fuel injector cleaner in your next refuel and check your fluids yourself. Check your filter and all the little things you can. Other than your fuel mileage do you feel any other problems?

Mine has 19,400 miles as of this morning. I have gotten the same mileage (17-20) since it was new. It only goes down to 17 when im on the hiway because our speed limit here is 75. I like to run 80 and the little motor has a hard time keeping that speed without downshifting on even the slightest incline. So my bad mileage portion is caused by me. I can baby it and get 20.

My 4 cents... Similar truck as Coach but non SR5 and purchased mine with 50K miles - and she was babied by original owner. Average 19 miles/gallon with 95% being highway miles. Right at 100 miles/day driven and I do not baby her at all - pushing 80 most of the way on tollways. She's a Tacoma and doesn't need babying. 14 miles/gal sounds very odd. I have no suggestions just giving you a background on a 13 double cab 4 banger with decent miles/gallon.

So, so many variables, such as... ethanol in gas (or not)... startup temperature and warm up times... mods... tire sizes and pressures... how many pounds of extras you are hauling around unnecessarily... too many to list.

The most influential variable of all is your driving habits. As others have said, jackrabbit starts and high cruising speeds will kill your fuel economy. Remember these trucks are not very aerodynamic. (The Corvette is very low and slick and gets 28mpg cruising 80mph no problem hehe)

Dirty air filters in fuel injected engines will kill power not fuel economy. The computer monitors airflow and less airflow gets less fuel, so the mix is carefully controlled. Carbureted engines are another story.
