Alright fellas, first time posting as a new member here on Tacoma World. I need a little advise and help. First, here's my setup; Pro Comp shocks all around, with no lift kit, spacers, or blocks. These make the truck sit up quite a bit higher, but I think are killing my ride. Any pothole, manhole cover, crack or whatever in the road, and I'm all over the place. I've got no play in my wheel bearings, ball joints, or SB Links either. Tires are brand new. If I switch my suspension back to stock will I be set? I've got an 05 4runner with 155k that is waaaaaay smoother than my Tacoma, I'm just not sure why! Could I throw the coil set from the 4runner onto the Tacoma to test it? Do my tires just suck? I could also switch tires from 4runner to Tacoma, given they are an all terrain would look better too..... thoughts?

fwiw my truck was doing the same thing. when I went to put on my lift my ball joints were shot with no indication of wear until I took them off.double check you upper and lower control arms with the front end off the ground and as far are your procomps go look for something a little better like 5100 Billstien or some OME coilovers they produce a better ride quality

Depending on high your truck sits from stock. You will most likely need UCA and then an alignment.

What is the load rating of the tires, what size, and what pressure are you running?

Would I need a UCA because of a bad joint or because i need one to adapt to a taller coilover? Front end off the ground, ball joints look craked and torn BUT I still have no play when tugging the tires left and right up and down. 34 psi all the way around. Max loan on them is 44psi. 265/65R17

I'm not a suspension expert, however harsh ride as I know it can be attributed to stiff recoil on your spring rates and/ or leaf package. Since your rears are stock, I'd be willing to bet you have a combination of tall shocks, which is stretching out your coils and not allowing them to flex and absorb road bumps and such. The coilovers seem like they're really making high angles in your CV joints and UCA's. This will affect suspension travel, yes larger tires will slightly improve the angles, but larger tires can also negativity affect the ride.

If you aren't looking to be off road, and you just want a smooth ride I would just sell the pro comps and go back to stock or some slightly better than stock Bilstiens. You're at a crossroad, you have shocks and no more, which is decreasing the ride quality, and you can go down the rough road to build the rig up if that's what you want (and you have an already established 401Ko_O) or you could sell the pro comps and swap them with a coilover that allows equal to OEM ride quality and travel. IMHO

Yeah, I'm not really looking to offroad (2wd) I just want a good looking and smooth ride. You reassured everything I thought it was.... The pro comp is just to tall and too stiff. Back to stock it is!

Its one thing that you have a second gen and it is even remotely that clean...but the fact that its a 2006? That's some skill.

The shocks and springs you have from from pro comp are a lift kit. They have been known to be the harshest lift kit on the market. If you want to alleviate yourself from that, the choose another style lift kit that will replace the front shocks and springs, and also the rear shocks. I suggest OME front soft ride sport shock with an OME 884x spring and and OME rear shock. This will lower your ride height slightly, but at the same time give you more comfort and better alignment results. Or, if you want to remove the lift completely, look for some take off TRD shocks from a local Tacoma owner. You may have to remove the add a leaf from the rear leaf springs though.

Looking at the pic, yes, there is an AAL. It's the leaf above the overload spring that doesn't have a tapered edge.
