I ordered an oxygen sensor for my 04 3.4 L tacoma trd and crawled under it for the quick CEL fix. Traced the wire connector down first thing and noticed that the connector is a 2 wire and my new part is a 4 wire. No problem. Return the 4 wire and order the 2 wire. Problem. I cant find the part listed with a 2 wire connector anywhere. Its like nonexistant. Anybody got any suggestions?

The front O2 sensor (Bank 1, Sensor 1) should be a 4 wire air/fuel sensor. You may have been looking at the 2 wire O2 sensor that is downstream of the catalytic converters.
    What code are you getting?

Thanks for the reply. Cant remember the code number but it was bank 1 sensor 1. The old/bad one on my truck is the original. Its a 2 wire with a different shape connector from everything i can find online. This is the one just ahead of the cat.

You only have one cat? Huh, I thought by 04 they were all CARB compliant and had two cats. Try looking for the O2 sensor for a 2000 or earlier model, those should be a 2 wire upstream sensor.

    My apologies. Im a dumbass.

I traced the wire across the transmission to a 2 wire connector i could actually get to. I should have known better. That would have been easy. The actual lead from the oxygen sensor runs to a connector at the very top of the transmission that a human cant get to. The one i found was just a decoy coming from the exact place that the sensor wire was coming from.
I took out the boot cover and boot plate and could almost see and get 2 fingers on the connector but couldnt get it disconnected without first prying it loose from a connector mount and unbolting the actual sensor to get enough slack to touch it with both hands to disconnect it. Life is good!

No its not. The connectors didnt match up so i had to reconnect and bolt the old sensor back on and put the boots back on. Gonna return the part and order another one with the right connector. I might finally get this job done in a week or so.
