I think you might regret not having 4.88s when you put 35s on. You don't have the power Homer does at sea level. Below 5k my truck has a 5th gear, above that it rarely gets used. But I'm a 1st gen that is missing 2 cylinders and I'm always driving around 8500ft so I hope it's not a big deal with all the power the 4.0 has.

He'll be good. I understand the elevation difference but the truth is 4.56's are slightly overgeared for 35's. 4.30 is the sweet spot IMO but that's not available.

Agreed. 4.88s on 33s on the highway would have been rough, at least with the manual. I'm already screaming in 6th gear @ 75mph. That's part of the reason I'm anxious to size up...that and wanting to go to an MT.

I am really leaning toward the mud grapplers. I want to get one mounted up and test fit so I can figure out how much more cutting needs to happen before the new uppers go on.

Interesting for my truck the 4.88s with 33s put it close to factory. Just figured 4.88s and 35s on a 6 cylinder would be close to stock.

Well you're not wrong. From what I remember reading, 4.88 and 35s was close to stock on the 2nd gen 6 cyl auto, but not the manual.

Btw, I'm on 35s with factory gears... The super helps but I'm sure some 3.56s would definitely be a worthwhile investment

I haven't been to Rollinsville in a few weeks, but I wouldn't expect to get very far on Pickle this time of year.

I'm more inclined to head towards Bailey where there's less snow. I wonder how slaughterhouse gulch is...

Ok, so I think I've narrowed it down to these two tire choices and soliciting some final opinions. It's down to the Nitto Trail Grapplers or Pro Comp MT2s.

Here's a little wheel porn to show you what the two would look like on my wheels...

    Nitto Trail Grapplers on SR8s

    Pro Comp MT2s on SR8s

I'm currently running 285x75x16 Terra Grapplers and while they were a great AT in the summer conditions and on the east coast, I have been disappointed in their performance in the snow out here. I'm stepping up to a 315x75x16 and primarily looking for an MT tire with better traction in the hard packed snow and ice. I've been doing more overland driving on 2-4 rated trails, with some 5-6 rated stuff sprinkled in and plans to do more in Moab.

I've considered the BFG KM2s/KO2s, the Nitto Mud/Ridge Grapplers, Cooper Discoverer STTs, and Goodyear Duratracs to name a few.

    Any thoughts?
