This one weighs about 5.5 pounds. The 2nd gen steel cap weighs 9 pounds.

We originally made the 3rd gen cap out of 1/8" steel, but it weighed almost 19 pounds. It made closing the tailgate difficult, so we chose aluminum for its lighter weight and corrosion resistance.

I have he mobtown reenforcement plate, it's already heavy. 10 more lbs at the maximum moment angle can't help.

Picked one of these up from KBVooDoo.
    Nicely machined piece of kit.

I'm replacing the steel mobtown tailgate edge plate. It's was about 12 lbs, and that plate with the 20+lb reenforcement plate was no joke to close.

Once installed, I immediately noticed the difference, seems that 7 lbs at the edge of the tailgate makes a difference.

You can see all three edge plates compared below (stock, mobtown, voodoo).
    IMG_8511.jpg

Install is pretty standard, remove top plate, remove 2screws, install plate.

Due to thickness, the voodoo plate rests over the edge of the inner liner. Looks almost continuous.

Overall, great product, well machined, and an excellent lightweight option.

Final install. I have the mobtown reenforcement hardware kit, but replaced all the cap screws and washers with stainless.

Just pop the old one off, and mount this with the included hardware. Takes about 4 minutes.

The caps are right after my light bar. I just bought your Heavy Duty Cross Bars to carry our camping gear. Awesome quality on those. I'm plasti-coating the ends and installing some spot lights for camping.

You all need to do a reinforcement plate as well... Package deal for the two!

We feel that the reinforcement plates accomplish very little in terms of actual strength. All they really do is make the tailgate excessively heavy.

No it was the stock tailgate.. thats why I'm looking at replacing it. I plan to order you cap, but was wanting something to cover the rest of the tailgate.. I might just get the cap to protect the outer edge, and try to force myself to realize that a truck bed should be treated like a truck bed, regardless of how new she is.

is the aluminum thick enough to countersink the screw heads to make the top flush?

    Mostly stuff I built.
What I would like to see is a full tailgate cap made from stainless. Cover the entire gate easy to clean. I use my tailgate as a countertop while camping. Any chance you will do something like that preferably one that leaves the factory plastic and composite parts on the tailgate. @KB Voodoo

Just looked at your page. This stuff is Awsome. This will be on my short list of upgrades. All I had left was TRD pro shocks, TRD exhaust and a sub... now I need a tail cover and a remote start!
