    Hello all

This is our 2nd go round looking for a 1st Gen Tacoma for my son. Was looking last summer and found an awesome 2004 that had too many issues for the price.

Son found a 2004 4cyl automatic 4x4 Access Cab with 180,000 miles on it. We haven't checked it out yet, it's one of his friends relatives. They have had it since 2005.

We were always looking for a 6 but have been researching the I4 2.7L now.

Any opinions on this? I know to check out the frame and all, but anything else to look out for. I've searched on the various car sites for prices and they are all over the place. Any advice on price. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Not many 2.7L 4x4's with auto transmission out there - in relation to the v6's. The 2.7 is a proven motor and 180,000 on a decently maintained motor isn't too bad at all. It will be underpowered in comparison to the 3.4's. Gearing is paramount. If you are harboring any thoughts to running bigger/larger tires you may be unimpressed with the lack of power unless you regear (which is expensive) - Mine has 230,000 and runs strong, 33" tires with 4.88 diffs. I always try to have a used vehicle looked at by a mechanic I trust. Good luck with the search
