So I have a '96 2.7L 4x4 MT standard cab Tacoma. Two weeks ago, I was driving back from an epic weekend in Mammoth and got this great idea in my head to turn off the 395, run down the dirt through Alabama Hills and reconnect to the highway in Lone Pine. I had just installed Icon coilovers and UCAs and reservoir shocks in the rear. Even with heavy duty leaf springs, the truck felt fantastic. I was barreling down this dirt road, doing about 50mph, huge grin on my face, my dog next to me and for the first time ever she wasn't getting knocked around as my truck traveled down this dirt road. And then boom, 90 deg turn, going way too fast, hoping whatever's off the side of it is friendly, nope definitely a ditch, ok maybe I'll just nose into it, ok now I'm rolling, aaaaand we're upside down. My dog and I crawl out, no one's hurt. I immediately call my friend who was behind me a bit on the 395 and everyone's in pretty good spirits as we use his Duramax to right my truck and pull it out of the ditch. Good exercise in recovery really.

Plus I got a great shot of Mt. Whitney!

Anyways, the truck is back home, I've replaced it with another '96 and will be swapping over all my aftermarket parts. As far as damage, the roof got smashed pretty good and where it meets the windshield is pretty mucked up. The passenger side fender is preventing the door from opening all the way and the driver's window shattered. Other than that, it runs and there's body damage, but hood pops and driver door opens fine. Frame might be good, but hard to tell.

So the question is what now? I see three options. 1) Sell it as is. Either to a salvage yard, on TW, or Craigslist. 2) Part it out on my own. and 3) Chop off the bed and turn it into a trailer and then sell or part out the front. I'm just wondering if anyone has any idea what the selling price would be for any of those scenarios, or can offer other ideas. I'm open to suggestions.

For reference, it used to look like this:

Ahh yes, as has been suggested to me. Just not my thing really. I have too many hobbies at the moment. I'd like to stick to an overlanding rig, an adventure bike, and a dirt bike. I'll let someone else turn it into a rock crawler if they want.

Too poor to list anything interesting.
    I'd honestly keep it.

So sell it as or part it out.

Not sure what the question is, you don't want it, right? Leaves 2 options, one is harder and makes more money. One is less labor intensive and makes less money in less time.

    Pick one.

    Also, slow down.

This is the best I have. Most of the damage is that side, and the top of the cab.

I guess my question is what is it worth? How much is it worth to someone doing a 4x4 swap? Or to a salvage yard? Anyone have a ballpark number?

I'm sorry to hear what happened to your truck. I'm glad that you or your dog wasn't injured. If you intend to part it out, I would be interested in the interior parts and the car stereo. PM me if you wish to contact me about parting it out.

Suspension, 33s, some armor... Rust, Gray wire and 2Low, and more. T4r is stock.
Keep it... Find someone with a bad frame and do a body swap...

That sucks. Personally, I like the idea of chopping the frame under the cab and turning the back into a trailer. Sell the good parts and scrap the cab and damaged fenders.
I know up here, the scrap yards aren't paying for scrap vehicles. So your best bet to make $ off it is to sell on TW or CL either as is or parted out.

I would look into a car auction. If its driveable, and complete, you might get $2k out of it, from a 'flipper'.

great photo indeed. Sorry to hear. I think you know your options, i guess whatever yields you the most money...I'm guessing take all aftermarket parts and then sell the rest.

Lucky to get $600-700 from a junkyard, sell it to a TW member or CL,depends on area but approx $1500 or more and let them part it out or....... part it out yourself and possibly make $3-4000 . That takes alot of work, tools, knowledge, space and the hassle of selling parts but you learn alot about your truck.

I just bought 2 wrecked ones for $1500 each. A 98 V6 4x4 auto with only 35k on the engine and a 01 TRD V6 5sp stepside and between the two I'll build a sweet 01 TRD,5sp,stepside and sell the parts I don't use . But I have a 30x40 shop ,all the tools and I've been a mechanic for years that has done frame off restos to complete engine builds as a hobby I love. Wrenching on airplanes pays the bills though.
