I have a 2002 Tacoma Extended Cab 4x4 non-e locker with 2.7l and 5 speed. In preparation for doing the Washington Backcountry Discovery Route this spring, I put in a Detroit trutrac LSD in the rear axle today. Tear down was about 1 hour, had a shop install the Detroit in the 3rd member and then putting back together was about 3 hours.

Street driving seems like nothing has changed, I'll update with off-road performance. Detroit was $465, rebuild kit for diff. was $257 (with 200,000 miles I figured it was ready for a rebuild)and labor for the kit was $330. The work was done at my local 4 Wheel Parts store. I really wanted to tackle the install myself but with setting preload, backlash and gear mesh I'm glad I didn't.

Should be a scenic trail, I've wanted to do it myself. I've put a Trutrac in multiple trucks including my 03 DC. You will notice it on the street accelerating up hill on a corner in the rain, no wheel spin. Good call not doing it yourself.
