Well, today marks a mile stone. I finally got my truck to start.

I found an immobiliser with a matching key, and got the engine ecu and Immobiliser to "shake hands". To be honest, I was not expecting the truck to start, but it did.

I ran into a snag. I'm using and 03 4runner a750. Turns out it was the only year with a dipstick. I was kind of excited that I had lucked into that, however it was short lived. The problem is the OE dipstick tube hits everything but the rear bumper on its way to its place behind the engine. Solution: use 04+ transmission pan with no dipstick. New problem, the tail housing on the 03 doesn't have a fill plug.... You are suppose to use the dipstick tube. Solution: full transmission via the return line on the transmission cooler. Hopefully this will work.....

As far as pictures, imagine a pile of wires thrown under a dash that is mostly stripped. Pretty much my current situation.

So I finished reading great build.. here's my questions.. how much easier would the 4.7 swap into my 2008 4X4 "off-road" v6 Tacoma. I sucker water through my intake and all I know now is I have a knock. Was thinking of the work it would take to rebuild it.. vs getting a Crate v6.. then I came across this thread and now I'm thinking how bad ass would it be to pull up in a v8 Tacoma, power gains wouldn't be the biggest but in sure efficency would be better.

Honestly, I can't really provide any guidance on swapping motors in a 2nd gen Tacoma. I've never looked at any wiring, or really even under the hood of a newer Tacoma.

I assume the engine would fit, since it fit my truck.

Getting closer to having my truck back mobile again.

I have run into a snag though. I have an A750F from a 2003 4runner v8. It came with a dip stick. At the time I thought I had hit the jackpot because this was the last year for the dipstick in the 4runners. Well, as you have probably seen in previous photos, the dip stick hits everything on it way to the OE location. No problem right? I can get an 04+ transmission pan without the dipstick, and it has the weap hole to adjust the fluid level. Well, this does work, however, the 04+ a750s have a fill plug made into the extension housing (transfer case adapter) that the 03 doesn't have.

This leads me to my problem.. how am I going to fill the transmission? List price for the extension housing is $500+ from Toyota, and around $380 at my "friend" pricing. Junkyards don't really want to sell the extension housing off a good transmission, and it looks like nobody has a core transmission laying around.

In other news, I found where a wire had broken off right at the pin. It powers the fly by wire throttle body. Took some time to find, but was a simple fix.

    No plug 03'

Well, after some carful consideration, I bought a 2004 4runner a750f... I now have the extension housing I need, and a back up transmission...

    IMG_20170203_131358273_HDR_677b02e6e08a022895da076934026fc240519392.jpg

Like I mentioned before, I'm using an output shaft bearing and oil seal from an a340f. The older style transfer case has a slimmer coupler than the newer coupler on the a750 transfer case. I imagine that you could use the tcase coupler vs swapping the bearing and seal, but I didn't want to buy a tcase just got the coupler.... So here I am....

And the two housings... Looks like I could have drilled and added the fill plug, but I probably would have had more money in it than a second transmission.

Also, worth noting that I am planning to run this Valvoline Maxlife multi vehicle ATF. According to the Valvoline product description, this fluid is 100% compatible with Toyota type IV and World Standard fluid. Which is great, because type IV and WAS are not compatible with each other and Can NOT be mixed.

Got everything put together together with the transmission. Front driveshaft installed, and filled transmission with fluid. Was able to move it for the 1st time in 6 months.

    Things left:

    External trans cooler
    Some final wiring
    New exhaust
    New rear driveshaft

Damn you drove it the whole time with no exhaust haha

Cool man, sounds good. Im thinking of stuffing an LS in mine but curious about the exhaust part with the front drive shaft in the way.

I wasn't proud of exhaust v1.0... So I never took pictures of it. This time I'm having it professionally built... There is room. Though. It comes right down the side. You need a heat shield for the fuel and brake lines .

You should post pics of how the current exhaust manifolds look and the new ones when they get installed. Ive beem looking heavily into toyota swaps recently 1gr with dual vvti 1uz 2uz 3uz diesel, and have settled on the 00-02 2uz for simplicity and no immobilizer and the A340E tranny make it the easiest option. The only thing I havent seen a good solution to is the driver side exhaust manifold I want pics.

I thought I had some pictures of it, but I guess I don't. I'll try and remember to take some pictures of the manifold this afternoon. However, it's really simple. The manifold clears everything except the flange on the steering shaft. Somewhere after the last exhaust port, and the bend that leads to the flange I cut the pipe, rotated the pipe so the flange points more to the transmission and clears the steering shaft. ... Very simple.

You are going to have to get creative with that, my exhaust wraps around the steering shaft and not sure how I would do it with 4wd. But having 400hp @ the wheels is pretty rad!

I would highly recommend using Aisin fluid if you can on your next changes, that fluid does the job but isnt quite the same formulation as the Aisin brand, you can get it on Ebay for about $6 per bottle. Great progress on your build buddy!

yea, CXracing has bolt in headers and motor mounts now. I think i'll be able to modify the header flange to make it clear. Also thinking of pushing the motor forward to allow room for it may help and relocate the radiator to the bed.

Have any photos of your install?

Somewhere in the beginning of this thread I have one..Ill snap some today at some point. Drivers side is gonna be tricky, almost ratfuked me trying to get it to fit, lol. And yeah you would need to do something with the rad if you want it more forward, its already tight as hell! My intake elbow is smashed against the radiator, lol
