I purchased my 2014 Toyota Tacoma 2WD Double Cab in September 2015 as a Certified Pre-Owned vehicle with 30,xxx miles. It seems as I cannot trust this Tacoma truck. It's at the shop almost every month since I have purchased it. This purchase was supposed to be a family vehicle, but I haven't been able to take family vacations, family events or kids sports due to the time it's always at Toyota service department. I have had it in the service department on numerous occasions and this vehicle now only has 42,xxx miles.

Below is a list of Problems:

    9/18/2015 at 30,410 miles invoice# 758541 (5 days)
Replacement of Rear Leaf springs Assy, Throttle body Assy &/or Gasket.

    10/21/2015 at 31,362 miles invoice# 761902 (1 day)
Concerning clicking/ticking noise, clucking/thud noise when in reverse.

    11/16/2015 at 31,905 miles
Issue with truck shuddering (shook truck violently), Body Adjustment (truck bed), Front Disc 1-SD, FOU-insp & replaced Exhaust pipe.

    11/18/2015 at 31,933 miles invoice# 764945 (1 day)
    Exhaust system rattling after recall.

    12/07/2015 at 32,337 miles invoice# 766855 (1 day)
Concerning ticking noise, issue with brakes,

    1/18/2016 at 33,306 miles invoice# 771204 (3 days)
Issue with truck shuddering (shook truck violently), Front disk brake pads, front disk 1-SD (r&r disc pad), front axle hub disk brake 1-SD.

    1/25/2016 at 33,444 miles invoice# 772120 (1 day)
Shudder on Deceleration after cold starts (shook truck violently).Ticking noise under truck.

    3/25/2016 at 35,212 miles invoice# 779036 (1 day)
10,000 mile synthetic service-standard-replace, stated concerns of ticking noise.

    10/10/2016 at 39,617 miles invoice# 802120 (1 day)
Ticking noise under truck, shacking of steering wheel, 40,000 mile/48 month interval pre-paid auto care service, front disk 1-sd (on-veh), front disc 1-sd (on-veh) combo: opposite side.

    12/15/2016 at 41,336 miles (16 days)
Took it in for concerns of ticking noise under truck.

    01/09/17 at 41,410 miles invoice# 812230 (8 days)
Took it in for concerns of ticking noise under truck and shuddering when decelerating around 20 miles.

    02/13/2016 at 42,401 miles invoice# 816311 (2 days)
Took it in for AC/Heater was stock on defroster mode and USB having a short. Fixed under good will program by DCH Toyota of Oxnard. Thank you
Note: multi-point inspection form I received in the email for 02/13/2016 states I now have some type of fluid leaks (engine/ transmission/ differential) and exhaust system (damage/ leaks/ corrosion). That wasn't caught the last time it was there for almost 2 weeks (02/13/2016)

Most of the issues I had have a case number with Toyota USA.

It feels as if I bought a Certified Pre-Owned Lemon with all the issues while making payments and multiple times taking it into service. I love my Tacoma but can't enjoy it with the numerous trips to dealer and endless phone calls to Toyota USA. I purchased a Toyota due to reputation of its brand and recommendations from other owners with Tacoma's. I want to thank your service department an technicians they done a great job helping me though all this issues. I hope you understand my frustration and discourage of this Toyota truck.

When does the lemon law come into effect???

Do a search for Taco tick. You will find the majority of your service complaints are normal. The 4.0 is loud and ticks excessively. This is normal.

Leaf springs were recalled. Main other concern seems front brake wear, which is a wear item.

Dealership diagnosed it an said it was transmission and/or torque converter and Toyota USA field rep said can't be the cause they never had an issue with that four-cylinder engine and 4 speed transmission.

Agreed, the ticking noise is normal, if it was anything other than the normal Taco Tic, they would have found and fixed the concern. What vehicle did you drive before this Tacoma? You have some valid concerns here but most are just normal truck roughness (?)

Per dealership this is not normal. And have numerous case numbers though Toyota USA. Dealership was willing to trade in my truck but wanted money down that I don't have due to Financial issues with damage to home with rain. I'm located in southern California.

It would be nice if they caught a few of these problems when you were in for other repairs. Maybe it's me but it seems like it developed new problems after a few of those visits. I'd like to think that mechanics aren't setting you up for new visits but...

Hopefully your out of pocket expenses have been minimal.

Also I noticed that, if I read your invoice numbers correctly, the place you take it to does a huge volume of repairs between your visits (almost a difference of 4,000 between two of your invoice numbers for a 1 month span).

I almost asked if you drove a BMW before... haha. Im not trying to negate your concerns dude, just saying, the Taco WILL have more/different noises and concerns as your BMW. That being said, if Toyota acknowledges them as being abnormal, then there probably is a problem.

No expensive out of pocket but man 12,000 miles between sep 2015 to present is killing me. Truck is always in the shop at least once a month from day 1

I understand it's not a luxury truck but to be in some many times and with same results and telling me it's not normal is concerning.

I hear you man, I wish I had some better advice for you. All I can say is keep contacting Toyota USA customer service line. You should get somewhere with them (atleast our customers do at Audi ha!)

The brake pads shift going from forward to reverse, making a terrible clank noise - it's normal. If the shudder is while driving - the problem is the asshat with the air gun putting your tires on - these trucks are sensitive to that shit. If the shudder is while braking, it's because you're driving it like it's a BMW. Ease off the brakes (and the throttle). Taco tick is normal.

Certified pre owned is a joke. Dealers charge more for not even looking at the truck - some of them, at least. The leaf springs are a joke too - even the replacements they put on.

Welcome to TacomaWorld! Say goodbye to your wallet!!!!

You can probably remove over half the items as normal with our tacomas : The ticking, thud noise in reverse, changing oil ( cause you should be doing this yourself, very easy). The brake problems are due to wear and can easily be resolved yourself by changing brake pads and rotors ( which again is very easy to do). The rear leaf spring was a recall and you don't really need to do it unless they are broke.

Honestly, buying any used vehicle, you don't really know how the previous owner treated it, so it's a crapshoot with things like brakes and engine leaks ( might be why it was traded in), previous fender bender accidents that's not reported which may cause other issues, hitting curbs, driving the vehicle hard, etc.
