285/75r16 KO2's, Baja XL 80's on CBI ditch brackets, TRD intake, opticoat pro, clear bra running the bottom sides, morimoto LEDs, all white LEDs inside, mounted shovel and axe above wheel well in the bed, linex'd the bed...
Messing with the suspension would void the warranty but trimming doesn't... But regardless, no trimming with 285s

would be nice to get a C load in a bigger size. But man the 255s must be thin... I love the beefy look of 285s. But I can definitely get behind more sidewall ;)

0.4" thinner than stock. Not much. But skinny tires are better off road than fatties. :)

Not really. If you need floatation (sand, mud, snow deeper than frame) go wide.

I was about to buy some from discount today. Manager was convinced it will rub. So have you for sure tested it out? Also did you notice a difference in acceleration? Heard you lose some due to gearing and size of tires.

I'm new to truck tires. Do you mind explaining how can or other loads in same size are different?

Yes they're different and also the offset. The stock OR is 25 and the PRO is 13.

It just has to do with the rating. Some tires are rated to handle the heavy loads of commercial trucks, some tires are rated to carry the light load of a small sedan. If you google tire ratings I'm sure you'd get a pretty good idea in a few minutes.

The lighter the rating, generally the softer the ride you'll have on road and the lighter the tire. The stronger the rating, the more aggressive off road situations you can get into and the heavier the tire.

    Sure!

P tires are Passenger tires (for cars). And honestly, if you just drive around on pavement and don't haul heavy loads they're fine on our light trucks.

C rated tires are more of an LT or Light Truck tire, generally speaking, having somewhat stronger sidewall construction but not made for massive loads.

E rated tires, for example, have very heavy duty sidewalls that are strong for hauling heavy loads. They're overkill on our truck unless one is looking for the strongest tire for thrashing against rocks. Typically at the cost of very heavy tires, bad gas mileage and a much more rough ride.

Typically if a tire is tall and skinny (i.e. 255/85/16) their tall sidewall has to be strong, so there are typically no C rated versions available.

This is all very generally speaking. There are always exceptions.

That's funny... When I went to discount tire, the manager put the tire up to my truck and confirmed I wouldn't rub.

Did the manager actually look closely? Or did he tell you that based on his knowledge of tacomas? Because any other Tacoma built would never fit these stock.

But 100% there is no rubbing after 18 days. I experienced one really light rub when I was backing up really fast and went into full lock while hitting a bump. But it was very minimal and only happened once in a what I'd consider a very rare situation.

if anything just get the same size tires with different tread depending on the off-roading you do. I'm in Florida so I really don't need anything serious, mainly just mud and sand.

Haha, nope, partially because I own a GM :boink:

I joined here because I was considering a midsize again and this was before the GM twins came out, I was doing research debating a future purchase and what I would end up doing and using it for.

Honestly I give these people a hard time because I just hate seeing laziness. I rarely post topics in any of the forums I have been big on (GTO, full size and midsize GM-trucks), I would constantly search and read. I got more info searching and reading because I could get many more peoples input spread across multiple threads. The ones like this commonly have a few posts that might contradict the many others that have ran or done that question or that deal with many variables. For example a what is the biggest tire question, model, tire type, brand and many other variables make each situation unique. So getting 4 people responding with 3 saying yes and 1 saying no wouldn't give me much confidence, I would want more data. But that is just me.

Still fun sometimes though responding to these threads, if no one tells them they will keep posting new threads asking the same question. Eventually they will be that guy with 40 post and 23 of them are new threads pushing the other info further down and making it harder to find or misleading others...

You feel like you need to regear? I take it you drive with ECT on all the time?

you should not need to regear for 33's , 35's yes. you just need to recalibrate the speedo.

I mean I generally just chill when I drive around San Diego so I leave ECT off... But ya when I'm offroading ECT always. Pretty weak and a regear would be nice, but if you step on it you really have all the power you need. Been considering a regear but decided I'll wait for the supercharger someday.
