I'm considering window tinting on my '17 access cab. Anyone know what the tint % is on the rear windows? Basically wondering if it is legal in Virginia to match drivers/passenger windows to the rear. I searched and the law states 50% in front windows and 35% in rear.

Virginia needs to go back to being a red state so people have more rights.

    50%? that's crazy.

I think they're already at 35% from the factory. At least that's what the tint shop told me

Suntek 25% matched the rear perfect on my AC.

Keep in mind when you tint the front they will have a different tint color slightly than the backs since they are already tinted in factory.

Yeah, I asked my shop to do max legal on my fronts this week. When I got home, in reviewing my paperwork it looks like they actually did 25% on the front which is a near perfect match to the back unless you get super close. But, in TN the max legal is 35%. Trying to decide whether to roll the dice or take it back / get redone. Any feel for risk level for Tennesseans out there? :)

My tinter put his guage on my factory rear. It was 27%. He only had 20 or 30 and told me the 30 would match better. It looks ok but I wish he had 25.

I live in Virginia and I run 35% all the way around. Window tinting is a secondary offense so they can only ticket you if they got you for something else (eg speeding) assuming they have a light detector. It's also only infraction or whatever like if you had a tail light out. Its a $50 fine doesn't go on your record, doesn't cost points.

I've been ticketed once for it in my life.

If you do ever get pulled over, just lower your front windows all the way down..

It's totally dependent on your locality how the cops will treat it. Where I'm from (Stafford) and where I live (Bon Air) are two entirely different animals on enforcement. It may be a secondary offense but the cops in Stafford will find something to pull you over for - regardless of what you did or did not do just to write you that fix-it ticket. Here in Bon Air, it's much more laid back. 5 miles away in Henrico, however, you're getting that ticket - it's just a matter of time. I've also noticed police are much LESS likely to enforce tint laws on trucks & suvs.

That said if you have a good relationship with your primary care physician, let them know that you're concerned about the sun damage on your skin from spending so much time in your truck. Their permission, along with a form from the DMV can let you get lower up front (I believe down to 35%).

Outside of the DMV/doctor bypass - anything you do past the legal limit is ON YOU. Your call whether or not you want to gamble on it; your job to find a tint shop willing to help (most will...).

I live in stafford, I never see the Sheriffs pulling people over. The only thing i see is the occasional fake cop car on the side of the road to slow people down.

As I said earlier its just a small fine, I paid it and kept my tint. I was pulled over for speeding my State Police at the time.

Action Window Tint in Fredericksberg is Awesome, have had all my cars done there.

It was different from 2003-2010 (when I was old enough to drive to when I left) - I can assure you. But in any case, the legal limit is what it is and its up to OP whether or not the ticket is worth it.

Stafford does have a reputation that any high speed chase that enters Stafford, ends there. I lived there( here) during some of that time.

Lol - these days I wouldn't be shocked if it was the traffic that helps. My parents still live in the same house and I dread getting up there unless it's at odd times.

True Story, traffic is terrible and worse now with Express lanes dumping onto regular 95 right before the exits.

610 (Garrisonville) is bumper to bumper..

[Last post of the derailing from me - I promise.]

I work for the DOT and as I'm sure you're aware, the solution is to move the problem south to just before the river. Just watch your home value go up and try to grin and bear it.

610 used to be 2 lanes and a mess of forest...until we got the Walmart. Now it's essentially NOVA.
