Ok asked a couple tire stores yesterday and both said they would have no problem mounting them on the wider wheel. So you're saying about as wide as the duratracs but a little taller? Thanks for getting back to me!

yeah, it was *visually* close, but obviously, the measurements would say otherwise, since the 265/75's are 10.5" and the 255/85's are 10.2". but in my mind, it doesn't have that super skinny pizza cutter look, like the 255/85 KM2's. I'll try get a pic when I have some time to go out to the parking lot.

more poser pics... unfortunately, I still haven't gotten around to longer rear brake lines and installing the RCD 5100's. not sure if I'll gain all that much, but I think the rear Icon's are just about maxed out with my setup.

    and some more fishing pics...

Ulua (Giant Trevally, aka GT) caught from shore on a plugging/spinning setup: 11' Shimano Tiralejo, Shimano Saragosa 10k w/ 65# Daiwa J-Braid, 100# Ande mono leader, Skubus Mini Krusher lure. 39" measurement from tip to tail fork, which is approximately 40#. these fish are usually really silvery, but the ulua around the Big Island have adapted to the lava rock coastline and take on a blacker color.

seems like I always end up in the same place to try flexing out my truck

I think the immediate things I need to do is cut my exhaust and install those longer rear shocks that have been sitting in my storage... for months :anonymous:

so I finally put up my full size matching spare (255/85 on a 16x8 Countersteer). thanks to @Crom's build page (https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...d-and-adventures.362772/page-22#post-10918403) for the tips. I can see how this isn't the best setup if you're planning on flexing the hell outta the truck, cause the tire sits really close to the pumpkin, as you can see in the pics.

but for wheeling down for a camp trip, this will do the trick. pretty stoked that it fit so good.

Love the pictures! Nice Build! I was in Kona in June 2009 on vacation for a week with my wife. Amazing place. I loved every minute of it. Can't wait to come back and explore more.

not sure, I've only had this setup with the Dakar's in the rear... this tire and rim combo is tall. you might be able to fit them on a stock rear, but I'm sure it'll start rubbing as soon as you're off pavement.

yeh I barely go off roading, I'm putting a 2.5 inch lift with LR UCA's and I might put a 1 inch block if it looks like the cali lean. does this tire look skinny in person compared to the BFG KM2? Also how are tire holding up, still quiet?
sorry for all of these questions haha your the only person I found with this wheel and tire setup that I want.

all good. I'm happy to help. I had a hard time finding someone with similar rim size/offset/backspacing when I was researching too, so I just pulled the trigger and prayed. lol

tire doesn't look *that* skinny. in fact, I feel like they look closer to a stock width tire, and wider than the 255/85 KM2's. I pulled up these numbers, which are advertised for the tires:
    KM2 255/85/16: width = 10" on a 7" wide rim, overall diameter = 33.3"
    ST Maxx 255/85/16: width = 10.2 on a 7" wide rim, overall diameter = 32.8"

maybe the ST Maxx look better cause they're on an 8" wide rim... not sure. one of the main reasons I didn't go with the KM2's is because of the height. they are one of the biggest in the size class... I believe KM2's and Toyo MT's are both larger than 33". depending on your setup, you could get A LOT of rubbing with these.

I'll take a couple pics today and you can judge for yourself

went on a camp trip with friends last weekend, down to Pohue Bay. mainly a lot of eating, drinking, fishing, diving, and beach. the off road is pretty long... a little over 6 miles over lava to get to the camp site. from there, there are some side roads to go to different fishing spots, a surf spot, and a "Queen's Bath". there isn't much to speak of as far as "wheeling", but I like to find spots where I can try stretching my truck out, or just seeing if I can get stuck. lol.

if there's anything to take away, it's that the Cooper ST Maxx does really well on lava rocks. I did notice a small piece of tread missing on one tire (maybe half a dime size), but nothing major. solid tires, and I'd probably go with them again.

So all you did was bash those retaining brackets flat? Did you also have to relocate the tire pulley back an inch as well? How hard was it?

yeah, all I did was bash the brackets up into the frame. I didn't relocate the pulley. I can see what he (crom) means though... if you wanna wheel hard with that full-size spare, I think that would be a good idea. I don't wheel ultra hard, so the tire and pumpkin aren't bashing into each other, however, it is pretty close, and I'm sure they touch a little.

rejoice, I FINALLY got the Bilstein RCD 5100's (F4-BE5-B110-T5) installed today, along with a pair of Toytec SS extended brake lines. I haven't had a chance to flex it, but at least at full droop, the shocks aren't bottoming out and the brake lines still have some play. look, so shiny. lol

I've secretly wanted the FJ Trail Team rims for a long time, but I could never find a set for sale in Hawaii. somehow, I lucked out and picked up this set of (5) FJ SE Anthracite rims for a crazy deal. now I'm debating getting a set of MT's to put on them, or to swap my ST Maxx on (current BFG's are shot and useless). I think for now, the plan is to keep both sets, but I wouldn't exactly call either one of them my "beater" set

decided to finally do the 1st gen mud flap swap. I've had these for over a year now, collecting dust. I still have to take the tire off and drill some better holes, but this will work for now
