8 or 9 made it through with what looked like enough power to cross the line. I hope this isn't a sign of what to expect Sunday.

I've been threatening to stop watching this series for a few years now. Maybe this'll be the year I give up Sundays to get more stuff done or to stay out in the woods longer on the weekends. Damn DVR!

Wow, about 60 min into the race, they finally made it to the first segment and half he field is being loaded on the haulers.

Smaller spoilers = challenging to drive
Everyone fighting for 1 through 10 at the end of the segment = wreck fest

So this is the way to attract a younger crowd, why isn't Monster sponsoring a demo derby? Oh wait it's not Sunday yet they may have.

Well the TV sure ain't showing it, and MRN sure isn't wasting any time talking about it. Doesn't bother me. Every point counts. With wave-arounds and Lucky Dogs, it's possible to be in a good spot if a bunch of guys get taken out. Norm "You're #1" Benning made a career running 7 mph slower than the leaders and letting attrition take its toll on everyone else.

After last night's debacle I didn't even tune in for today's trash heap. Sat by the creek sipping suds and grilling hotdogs with the neighbors while the kids got covered in mud.

Maybe they will be entertained when they finally kill someone because of the rule changes. They constantly made rule changes to protect the drivers. Now they are going to have like what 3 segments?
So 3 checkered flags. 2 more big ones. This is not racing..... It's stacking the cards against the drivers to take chances they normally wouldn't take. It's all about the accidents and carnage. NASCAR was smart. They new this could happen so they added the repair rule to get the cars off the track and pit road to get back up to speed for more accidents. It's exactly what I thought would happen. It's going to cost so much more money now because of the car replacements.
I believe this will be Dale Jr.'s last year as he will be seriously hurt as far as his head goes. They are going to get knocked around so much more.

Alright drama fucking queen lets calm down

And honestly more than half of you need to chill the fuck out; we havent even seen one race yet and already fucking throwing everything to the curb. This is a season long process with veteran drivers and crew cheifs so itll work out fine.

A lot that are basing their judgments off of this truck and xfinity race forget that there have been so many driver changes with a lot of 17-18 year olds and not a lot of them know how to restrictor plate race so calm the fuck down

    Three part question time:
    (1) I understand and accept that sports must and have evolved over time. Given the myriad rule changes over the last 15 years, which new rules have benefited the sport (from a viewer's perspective)?
    (2) There are hints Dale Earnhardt Jr. will retire at season's end. He is the last solid link to the sport many of us grew up admiring. If he does retire, how will it impact you as a fan? Will you continue to support the sport?
    (3) How many Cup races are you attending this year?

1-the safety requirements including safety walls.
2-always felt Jr was riding around on his name, not saying wasn't or isn't a good driver, just felt he wasn't as good as his fan status makes him seem. However, when he leaves that will take its toll on the sport.
3-probably zero, haven't gone to one in a few years, but I don't really watch them any more, and a few years ago I didn't miss a single one.

1- I agree. Safety increases are a big + for the sport.
2- He hasn't had a definitive season in years, but somewhere along the way he quietly won 26 Cup races and 2 Daytona 500s.
2- My viewership dropped off around 2001 but picked up in 2011 before fading again in 2013. I don't tune in for many races anymore, probably due to being so busy/tired with college, kids, chores and projects. I turn on MRN and catch highlights on youtube. I watched three races last season, not counting the ones I attended. I got to 2-3 Cup weekends a year, which is still fun.

    1-safety no doubt

2- dont let the door hit him on the way out. Good restrictor plate racer, mediocre 1.5 mile driver leaving doesnt bother me a bit

Watched the 1995, 1996 and 1997 Daytona 500s this weekend; racing as a whole was just ok, much better product on the track today. I prefer those days for restrictor plate racing but give me todays racing for the 1.5's. Better TV coverage today as well. Overall nascar is just better today than it ever was imo, love the rule changes and i do think the 5 minute rule will be tweaked a bit.
