Should I go with 887 or 888 on 3rd Gen 5100's?

Hey all, I'm wondering if I should go with the OME 887's or 888's with billstien 5100's on a 16 OR DCLB. I am planning on running 265 75 R16 tires and think the 888's (projected 3 in lift) may be to much lift with tires smaller than 275 70 R17, the 887 are a projected 2.5 in lift. Thoughts on what would be better? Part of me thinks go big or go home, but the other part thinks 2.5 would be juuuuuuuust right. Pics appreciated!

Those tires will fit without a lift. No rubbing. Why do you want so much lift? Maybe just level it with some decent coilovers up front like 6112s. They'll ride and perform much better too. If you lift 2.5 inches or more you're going to need UCAs to balance out some of the other geometry

Yeah that does make sense, the 6112's is that a full strut set up or just coil overs? Any idea how much they bring the front up?

You know I think you make a lot of sense there, this is cheaper and would still give performance / better look

6112 is a much beefier shock/valve body compared to a 5100 and you will get better performance out of it.

The overall consensous seems 1 up on stockers get you no rubbing. From what I see/know here on the islands where Taco's are the state vehicle I shyt you not (Hawaii) some rub and some don't on paved road, mind you full reverse lock, turning up/down incline (go figure) but take it off road and you'll definitely get some rubbing flexing.

Like Smitty suggested, be safe and go 6112's up front and to add 1/4 driver side front spacer for the taco lean and 5160 (longer shock travel) + progressive AAL for rake for the ass. Then you are good to go

Slight left turn in this thread but still on topic. 6112 versus the OME Nitros 9000s- what would you say is the better shock?

I emailed HS about their progressive AAL but they're on vacay, what makes them better than the traditional single AAL?

To build on Sandemans request, what are the offerings from competitors that provide similar lift and performance as the 6112? Who sells progressive add a leafs?

From what I've seen online, Headstrong sells a Progressive 3 leaf AAL....

Several offer the 3 leaf add a leaf which I believe I've heard are all made by the same leaf manufacturer (deaver?) Wheelers offroad and Headstrong for example. I'll let someone else chime in with more experience on the rest of your question.

I see that now. I wonder if I'd be better off with blocks - I don't carry a lot of weight often in the bed and don't want it to ride like hell. Additionally, I am not after an aggressive lift, but I need to do something about the front after I put on that steel bumper. Once I do the front, then I will need something in the back. I think the earlier post about 6112s (or equal) with a block or a single 1" leaf spring bar may be my ticket.

I am about to turn 30 - days of fun cars are over.

Depends how much lift you're adding? I'd call someone like Marie at Headstrong or Dan at wheelers. They're both very informative and helpful.

Blocks generally are frowned upon. If you're trying to just do a mild lift maybe 2" up front and bring the rear up level I think the 3 leaf would be the better option for coming up 1.5" or so in the rear. You'll have to leave the factory overload out if you are not regularly towing or hauling so it doesn't ride too stiff. But based on what I've seen and heard the 3 leaf progressive does not screw up the ride.
