In my opinion, positraction is a universal term for a differential in a RWD vehicle where power is sent to both wheels at all times. Typing "positraction" into Wikipedia will bring you to the page for Limited-Slip Differential. Also, I don't think true posi rear ends have been around for a while. They're either locking or limited-slip. Some purists will tell you that Positraction is GM's name for the differential, which is technically true, but if you're at a car show and you ask the owner of a Mustang or Charger if they're car "has a posi," they will say yes and not correct you about any manufacturer-specific names.

Also, my Asian-American female boss is very smart and a great general manager, but doesnt know much about cars. I am proud of the fact that because of me, my boss knows the definition of "posi rear" and can correctly give anybody that definition.

What do you car nuts think of using "positraction" as a universal term like Kleenex or Bandaid?

I'd get an aluminum radiator if I needed to replace the factory one. If a radiator needs to be replaced, does the A/C condenser always have to come out?

I've got a story about going to public school. I was NEVER known as a troublemaker. However, I did get suspended in middle school a few times for "assault." All of these incidents had one thing in common. The person I was "assaulting" was always a school bully. I would tell the teacher about the bullying, and nothing would be done. The bully would tease me relentlessly until I just blew my stack and gave them what I felt was some well-deserved vigilante justice. I subconsciously knew I couldn't get away with this shit once I was an adult, and I stopped right about the time I turned 18.

In November 2002, when I was in 8th grade, I was suspended for 2 days because I slammed my desk into the back of a 7th grade punk's chair during math class. In May 2003, towards the end of 8th grade, this same 7th grader really pissed me off. I was fooling around with a folding wall that divided two classrooms because I was bored, and I had no way of knowing this 7th grader and a friend of his were in the next room. He somehow got it into his mind that I was trying to push the wall onto him. WTF? I didn't know what the hell he was talking, and this made him angry, so he grabbed my binder and threw it on the floor. I picked it up and put back it on the desk, and he threw it down on the floor again. This guy had been giving me grief for an entire school year and I was sick of it, so I honest to God picked him up and threw him across the room into a bunch of desks. He didn't get hurt, but he was pissed.

In the end, I didn't get in trouble and only got sent home early even though more than one teacher knew about it. I came back to school the next day like nothing happened.

My theory: The school staff would never admit that the little bastard deserved what he got, but I think this is one of those times where they actually realized what I'd been suspended for about 6 months earlier had not been an isolated incident, maybe this 7th grader was a very mean-spirited person, and maybe, just maybe, the wrong person had been suspended...

It doesn't bother me that the term is used to generalize the type of equipment. It helps people who are getting into the hobby because they are able to use it as an associative description to find brand specific terms. However, if someone was asking about my car and asked if it has a Posi, I would tell them that it is a Sure-Grip. Without the correction, people would not learn the different brand specific terms.

I remember my dad would let me sit on his lap and let me steer his '90 TOYOTA pick up.

At 9 years old, he taught me how to drive stick on a '91 Nissan Pick-Up 4x4 King Cab with manual hubs.

Cars/trucks has kept me out trouble just not financially, expensive hobby lol! I'm going to try to do the same with my son. Yesterday he helped do the first oil change on the TACO. :) You should see his collection of TOYOTA truck toys!

I have to say, you have the most stressful episodes in your daily routine almost each time you drive you truck.

Have you considered painting your truck a bright neon color to easily be noticed? ;)

Really, in the case of a minor accidentally damaging a vehicle, you would more than likely need to submit a claim on your insurance. You could bully the parents into paying, but that's not really the right thing to do. Your insurance company will cover it and in some cases will go after the parents for reimbursement. In the event that your insurance company seeks repayment from the parents, their homeowners policy will likely cover the cost.

So, in short, there would be no reason to be a jerk. This is what insurance is for.

Edit: I guess you also have the option of suing the parents in small claims court as well. Nothing would legally require me to give you money unless either your insurance company or you personally sued and won a case in court.

I got about 290,00 on mine before I had to replace it, and the only reason was because I damaged it myself when in the engine bay...the OEM radiators in these trucks are stout...

The first thing i drove was a'80 Toyota 4x4 reg cab 4 speed when i was 6. My step dad would put the truck in 4LO and hop out and leave me to steer while he climbed in the bed and spread feed for the cattle. I stood up in the seat and just had to dodge trees. When he was done he would holler at me to take it out of gear and pull the hand brake. Ive had a special place for Toyotas ever since.

First thing I "drove" was my dad's 1993 S10 Blazer, sitting in his lap. It was 1995 and I was 6.

I drove our 93 runner when I was ten as well. Since I didn't grow up Moto, learning the clutch combo wasn't easy. Def was bragging rights when I came back knowing I could atleast manage stick! I think growing up around toyotas helped solidify my love for them. I will say this though, if pops didn't keep them stock I probably would of been much crazier about them at a younger age.

Maybe I am wrong in this, so please take this with a grain of salt.

My understanding is that "positrac" referred to GM's automatic locking differential (called G80), which I had on my old '97 GMC Sierra. The differential is open until there is a 120 rpm difference between the wheels, then it fully locks the diff. It is a mechanical process and GM has had it since the late 70's or so (maybe 80's, not sure). This is different than limited slip, which uses a constantly slipping wet clutch, and different from most other locking differentials which need input from the driver to manually lock it (usually via a switch).
