I'm looking to add two LED pod lights mounted under my rear bumper that will come on in reverse. Can I just plug these into the 7-pin towing harness to draw power and come on in reverse? If so, will any 7-pin plug work, or do I need one that only connects with the middle pin but is dead for the other outside pins?

Not looking to have a manual switch in the cab, as that seems a little too in depth for now. Unless it's really easy and you guys persuade me to do it lol. I've done a lot of research the last couple days but can't seem to find any solid answers for my questions. Any help is appreciated!

Tap into the reverse lights if you don't have a tow kit. If there is a tow package, tap in to the wire harness behind the hitch. There's a diagram on the hitch cover

You just rehashed what I said lol... I do have a tow package so the harness is there and I see the diagram. I'm asking whether I need anything special to draw power from the harness or if it really is as simple as it seems? Just order a normal 7pin plug from Amazon then wire the LEDs into that?

The flush mounted lights i bought
    (18w each..)
Give off lots of light. One of my favorite mods.
I didn't hook up through 7pin like you want though.

That's why I'm asking if it is possible and as easy as it seems. I just don't see any threads of people using the towing harness. Everyone seems to tap into the reverse lights for power.

One advantage to tapping into the reverse / backup light circuit near the tail light housings is that you're somewhat protected from the elements. The Trailer Plug is right out in the open and exposed to just about everything.

Check out the thread "Question about tapping into reverse lights". It is possible to do this. I used the factory 7-pin trailer harness but if I had to do it over again I would replace the 7-pin trailer harness with one which has screw terminals. The factory harness uses crimp terminals which made it a pain to double up wires.
