Got out for 1/2 hour today. Didn't catch anything. Tried so little man could fight one, but that front blew through and ruined it.

There was some risers, and could see them rolling subsurface. Just couldn't figure out what they were looking for. I tried a prince nymph, pheasant tail, copper John red, and a pheasant tail with a blue wing case. This is a high pressure stream, and they can be picky. Main intent of the trip was to the neighboring nursery so he could feed and check them out.

Unfortunately, I don't see them lasting long around here. Between all the Herons and the people that keep every fish they catch, they'll be gone In a hurry

Don't forget the osprey lol they can see those things from like 10000 feet

They get hammered so hard around here they quickly become the most selective fish in the river. Plus the drag hookers love em lol, easy targets

I love when they stock them here. Every idiot spends all day in that one hole trying to catch it. I have the rest of the creek to myself then.

We've never had them here. I'd like to catch one. Don't know how many they'll stock, but that hatchery supplies 26 streams in 4 counties...surely there will be a couple where I fish.

Not sure if y'all would know anything about this but its worth a shot...was going to go up to Wilson Creek to fish this weekend and wanted to camp Saturday night. The campground is closed and I am not much for the commercial grounds...being that its in Pisgah, can I just pop up a tent in a clearing near the river? Any info would be appreciated.

If youre on forest service roads, theres usually campsites scattered all through there. but yea its my understanding that you can pretty much camp wherever in the forest. we've done nights and camped on the side of the road. we didn't leave camp up much past 9am but I don't really see why you couldn't.

Awesome, looks like its going to be pretty cold up there this weekend. But they stocked the river this week and I'm sure it will be packed, driving up from Charlotte so I might as well just make a weekend out of it.

hahaha yessir! I got my dad, fiancé and brother in law a couple of fishing guides up on the Davidson a couple of years ago and it was 18* when we stepped into the water. still caught fish though! I felt like Lt. Dan by the end of the day though. I couldn't feel my legs! any day is good day fishing.

Thats a little brisk, but worth it for sure. I've only gone up to the Davidson once and the water was so low...need to get another crack at it. Worth hiring a guide up there?

It was for us. the fiancé and dad had never fly fished before so I wanted them to get personal tips and tricks and get put on a few fish. the company had a private stretch of water to fish so there was no one else on it, and the guides knew how to avoid putting too much pressure on the stock in the creek. also, it was great for seeing how to fish different rigs that we had never fished before. we used Davidson River Outfitters. I'd highly recommend them. great people. if nothing else we stop in to chat them up about whats biting where before heading out now. theyre always helpful and friendly! also, wintertime rates are pretty nice!

I've stopped in DRO a few times when I'm up fishing that way. Might have to grab a guide here in a few weeks and see whats up. I've started taking the GF as well, she cant seem to get that hook set quick enough to bring one to hand...its a work in progress.
