ok all, I would like some input on re-gearing my truck. I have researched TW for the past month on this topic and found a lot of input, however I didn't find quite what I was looking for, for my particular situation. Most guys re-gear for wheeling reasons, I on the other hand am thinking of re-gearing because of what I tow, and I need some input. Here is the break down of my truck,
    2013 DCSB SR5
    285/70/17
    3" lift
    what I tow
    2014 25' travel trailer, tongue wt - 550#, Scale wt - 5700#.
I tow this trailer often, and I usually tow long distance. The truck on the other hand is not a daily driver. I have a company truck as my daily driver. Now many people have opinions about the 4:56 and others on the 4:88. I just don't know what I should install, if anything. Since I did the lift and the tires on the truck, the truck does shift differently and that is to be expected, I understand. It has a big effect on the drivability when I'm towing the TT. I am looking to fix the shifting issue and I know re-gearing will do the trick, but re-gear to what??
    Questions:
    1. should I re-gear even though the truck isn't a daily driver and it's only used to tow?
    2. If the answer is yes to Q1 then re-gear to what?
    3. I am currently getting 13-14mpg now, will the re-gearing help with MPG's, there are many opinions on this.
    Thanks for every ones input.

I'm kindof in the same boat as you. I have a 2014 access cab trd 4x4 manual with 2.5" lift and 34x10.5r17s and my gears are alright for regular driving but I need lower gears for towing my 20' travel trailer. I measured the actual height of my stock tires and the actual height of the 34s and plugged the numbers into this calculator http://www.csgnetwork.com/multirpmcalc.html for me 4.10s will get me back to stock gearing/rpms

I say if you could afford to re-gear, do it!

you should regear to get you back to what your factory gearing is. with stock gearing what are your trans temps like? that will be another benefit of proper gearing is that you are not pushing the transmission as hard with proper gearing. so lower trans temps

I didn't even consider the trans temp aspect...great point. I am at 195*F-205*F when towing the TT and that is when I am working the truck. I do have a larger trans cooler.
